(Continued on Next Column) Study CS Driver's Insurance The legislation committee of the Professional Institute is making a special study of government insurance policies as regards drivers of federal vehicles. W. M. Marshall, institute president, said today no firm commitment had been made by the government for the protection of drivers who are sued while on duty.

"Under the law," he said, "an employer is responsible for the acts of his servants. But in the case of a car accident he becomes responsible to the injured party--and may then attempt to recover from the employe. No Insurance "Government cars carry no insurance. If the crown is sued by an injured party the government will determine to what extent its driver is at fault and will assess him up to $250 maximum, on a sliding scale, regardless of the amount of the suit." "The rub is however if the 1 injured party sues the driver rather than the crown, there is no definite ruling as to how far the government will go to protect said Mr. Marshall.

"As a result, many of our people are paying extra premiums on their own personal car insurance policies to give them this protection. "Hundreds of government vehicle operators are wary of the whole set-up," he said. "All we can get out of the Justice or en Insurance Departments is a vague, 'they'll be protected against anything over $250 the same as if the crown were sued." want something more binding than this," the president said. Wind Drops, Slows Down Gaspe Fire QUEBEC (CP) Cool, still air gave firefighters in Gaspe south a respite Wednesday night from fighting a forest fire now in its 15th day.
