F1TCHBURG SENTINEL, SATURDAY, MARCH 20, 1937 Comfort-To wnsend Contest Features Hart Fought Games In Community Basketball Haid played contests featured the Community basketball tourney at the last night with the Merchant Gardner Gondoliers and Comfort Slippers winning their games. The Comfort Slippers and Townsend Varsity team played the outstanding game of the evening with the Shppermen emerging a victor after a torrid final period. Both teams played aggressive ball with the lighter Townsend quintet giving their opponents a scrappy battle. The score was 4-4 in the first period with the Suppermen ahead 16 to 11 at the half. Led by Sims, the Townsendites deadlocked the score at 20 three, quarter mark.

In theT final session the game seesawed with the Slippermen bagging a few extras to clinch the victory Carey and Clark aced for the winners. Sims and Bailey starred for Townsend. The Bombers trounced the Leom- instef Orioles 49 to 22. They combined smooth passing with keen shooting. The Orioles failed to put up a defense against the attack which was led by Fellows who scored frequently and also played strong defensive game.

Wyman and Nikitas were also mainstays for the Bombers. Watkins led the Leominster team with 11 points. The Brigadiers put up a. great fight but were forced to bow to the Merchant Juniors. The Merchants led 10-4, 14-9, 17-11 and 24-14 at the end of the periods.

Connors and Leavenworth aided their team by clever shooting. Glenny did much to keep the opponents from scoring. Lipniskas starred for the Brigadiers. The Gondoliers of Gardner met little opposition in the Y. P.

F. hoopsters and handed them a 33 to 3 shellacking. The losers did not score until late in the second stanza while the Chair City boys made steady progress throughout the game. Yablonskj and Kodys set the pace for the winners and Sterling fm the losers. Savitt, Delaney, J.

Barton ..85 83 99--267 Totals ......291 325 320-- 936 Cousins Named Both Captains At Assumption Roger and Will Aubuchon of this city were elected co-captains of the Assumption college basketball team for the 1937-1938 season at the annual sports night of the college in Worcester last night. They are cousins and have been the mainstays of the college team several seasons. Roger is a forward while Bill plays center. is high scorer of the Assumption team raid Bill is a close second.

All votes of the squad were in favor of the cousins for co-captains with the exception of two, one of which favored Roger as captain and other backed Bill. It is the first time in the history of Assumption that co-captains were elected but the Fitchburg athletes are both so popular and clever that the squad decided to honor both. Letters were awarded to both as well as to Rene Brassard of Leominster, another valuable member of the team. All Stars Victors The Margolin All Stars defeated the Margolin Aces three points in a special match at the Putnam street alleys Jast night. The Aces won the final game by 10 pins but the All Stars captured the other two games by wide margins.

Hillhouse of New Haven had no trouble trimming Winslow of Maine 56 to 21 while Burlington just edged Lowell 24 to 22 in the semi-finals of the New England tourney at Portland last night.

Lowell got off to a lead but Burlington spurted and led 24 to 15 with only a few minutes remaining. Burlington tried to pile up the score and Lowell added three more baskets to cut down the margin. The Red Sox have released Jack Russell, unconditionally, and now the veteran pitcher can do business wherever he likes. Al Goodwin Hits Triple Strike In Social League Nu-Heive Quintet Bowls Over 300 Each to New 1624 Peak Lester Sawyer's Nu Hesives again led the Social league at the Putnam street alleys last night when they hit 1624 to blank Montuori Bros.

All five members of the Nu Hesives bowled over 300 with Jim- mac Sheehan rollinp 359 and Joa Landry 358. The team hit -511, 548 and 565 It is the second time in six weeks that the Nu went over 1600. The Norge Rollers, with leading atm hit 1547 and took four from Tagg's Lindys. Porter's Garage hit 1476 and WOT three points from Palace Strati Laundry.
