Net change is from previous day's close.) Net about to embark with grain for China are not equipped, the pumps will be airlifted to Chinese ports and will be waiting for them when they arrive. The pump problem arose when the Chinese government chartered a number of tankers, normally used for transporting oil, to convey the Canadian grain. One reason was the surplus in sea-going tankers, which made them cheaper than some ordinary freight and cargo vessels.

Tankers do not normally have the pumps to lift the grain from the holds and convey it to dock-side. This special equipment is made by an American corporation, but when the U.S. government learned that pumps were being sent to equip two ships loading out of Montreal and Quebec for China, it placed an embargo on the pumps. The Canadian government seouted around and found that a Canadian firm, Pneu-Veyor Systems Ltd. in Woodstock, was able to manufacture a smaller pump, at the rate of two a week.

Each ship requires five. Mr. Hamilton said that to keep deliveries on schedule, the ships can leave without the pumps. The Canadian government would fly them to China by RCAF Transport Command as "our contribution to good salesmanship." a i ie n1 ot, a TtF t-h vIenj1 a 1 Tg Hole EjauftZ Tteas irB ,1 gin gg ge a tTa" 6 ft CE Ul AlRf Tt A A 51 ab cTa EfcigTe 1" IT AE3f5ToegT3eipe P-illiM EV ATP Husky Hydro Cdn Oil CPR Comb Eng Con Coronation Dist Seag Bridge Dom Tar Dom Text Donahue Dow Brew Fr Pete pr Dynam Holt Ren Home PF 11 11 41 1 4-10 3 3 4-1 34 1 46 360 145 5 36 23 3034 4 -H 71 27 541 12 49 51 8 5 54 33 40 1 91 Vi 51 12 35 Vi 51 14 36 19 Vt 1134 29 27 27 1844 Vt 82 70 57- Abitibi Acad-AtI Acad-AU A Amew-S Alta Dist AltaDia vt Alta Gax AltaGaa Alta Nat Alg Ceil Alg pr Alt Cen Algoma Algonquin Alumini Alum 2 pr Analog Analog wtx Argus Atlan Ace Atlas Steel Bank Mont bank NS Bath Bell Phone Biltmore pr Bowater pr Bow-M pr Bowater Brazil Br Tnk Bright BA Oil BCE 4Vipr BCE 4 pr BCE SVt BC Forest BC Pow BC Phona Brown Build Prod Burlington Bums Cal Pow Can Cem Can Cem pr CI Fndry CI 4V Can Malt Pack Can Perm CSL Can Wire Cdn Brew Br Alum CBAL A CBAL Cdn Can A Cdn Celan Cel 175 pr Chem Chem Curt Drawn pr Dredge Frbks A 1000 11 4000 84 2160 430 600 400 7750 171 200 104 1000 97 3039 645 500 262 2000 68 1040 795 4500 1 425 400 165 100 97 635 255 52 790 430 400 167 104 97 640 255 68 795 CS Oil wts Chieftn Delhi Cdn Dev Ex Gas Homestd Williston Cent Del Mic Mac Dev-Pal Dome Pete Dynam rts Fr Pete pr 400 365 360 365 10 Hud Co rt 800 115 By Bruce Phillips Sou ham News Service The "crisis" in Canada's wheat deal with Red China proved the' one-day wonder of Parliament this year. It turns out the grain shipments, supposedly threatened by American refusal to supply essential equipment for unloading grain ships, will continue on scheduJe.

The "crisis" arrived when reports wre circulated that vital suction pumps to unload ship holds, manufactured in the United States, could not be obtained for vessels carrying grain to China. Well, it's partly true. The U.S. government, in keeping with its policy of not rendering assistance to Communist countries, had prohibited the shipment of the suction pumps. But, as both Prime Minister Diefenbaker and Agriculture Minister Hamilton made clear Wednesday, it won't make much difference.

To begin with, only a few of the many ships used in the massive grain lift to China need the equipment. An estimated 80 to 90 per cent already are equipped. In addition, a substitute pump can be manufactured in Canada, although it is not as big as the U.S. model and will unload a ship at only about half the rate. Mr.

Diefenbaker told the Commons in the morning the U.S. decision to withhold the pumps "in no way endangers" the wheat sale worth $425,000,000 over the next three years if China buys all the grain set aside for her by the government Later in the day, Mr. Hamilton supplemented the statement. He said that even if ships now 115 115 .4 1 Hud Bay Co 2W 60 $44 4 44 CNR 2 1 Feb. 1961-63 97.50 97.90 do 5 15 Dec 1964 103.50 104.50 do 5 15 Dec.

Dunbar Bridge to 183 feet north of Heron Road.

The contract to be awarded also covers construction of a new 140-foot long reinforced concrete bridge, over the CPR Pres-cott line, to replace the existing wooden trestle humped-b a bridge which has been a traffic menace for so many long years. The NCC has called the tend-eis and vd supervise the work to be done to be paid for by the NCC and the city on a 50-50 basis. The construction project and bridge may not be completed this season. The first link of Riverside Drive being widened into a four-lane highway extended from Billings Bridge, Bank Street, to just east of the Dunbar Bridge. This link, involving quite a traffic interchange concerning Bank Street, cost $1,000,000 last year, paid by the NCC and the city on a 50-50 basis.

The city supervised this construction project. The second link of Riverside Drive widening, between Heron Road and Brookfield Road, through the $21,000,000 cluster of government buildings erected there, was completed recently. This section, costing $320,000, was paid for entirely by the government with the Public Works Department having supervised the work. Similar widening of Riverside Drive, south from Brookfield Road to the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club, enroute to Uplands airport, Is to be carried out, later on, by the Department of Transport and the city sharing the cost of this scctinn. 3600 219 1000 69 10O0 3600 98 5900 38 500 7 28 28 46 97 37 38 7 7 -16 -7 4-1 4-1 1 -1 -1 2 -1 tW 700 $33 33 Que Ascot Qunston Quemont 500 15 15 33 15 7 26 7 V.
