Chs. 8, IS, 18 and 22). MOVIE. "The Deadly. Affair." (1967).

(Repeat). Engrossing detective drama starring Mason, Simone Sgnoret and Maximilian SebeU, act smack in the middle of the world of espionage and its agents. Mason is excellent as a British agent who tries to uncover the hidden facts behind the suicide of a British government employee. The plot is full of twists and turns, and although you may be a bit ahead of the action at times, the perfromahce of the cast, and Sidney Lumet's direction of the yam based on John LeCarre's novel "Call for the Dead," will hold your attention to the end. (7 p.m.

Chs. 13 and 21). MARY TYLER MOORE. (Repeat). Am used'newsroom episode with bald- headed Murray the writer, the center of attraction for once.

Murray (Gavin MacLeod) happens to be moonlighting, driving a cab nights to buy his wife a big anniversary present, and the overload affects his work. Helpful Mary sticks her nose into Murray's problem, and manages to make things worse. Rick Mittleman's breeze script has beetle-eyed boss Lou Grant being forced to apologize to newsreader Ted Baxter -a must scene for series followers. (7:30 p.m. Chs.

8,15,18 and 22). MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE. (Repeat). Head man Phelps plays a blind agent after delicate eye surgery, as agents crack the syndicate in a tough, active hour. Star Peter Graves imitates a drinking blind man to convince hoods he's not faking the eye problem, and the man is tested in key scenes and forced to improvise plans.

The hoods are properly cold and vicious, and the action seldom lets down. (9p.m. Chs. 8, 18, 15 and 22). SUNDAY MASTERPIECE THEATER.

"The Spoils of Poynton: Price of Possession." (Repeat). A superlative hour for drama-loving theater-goers and a iuicy tale of suspense for all. It's the BBC's four-part TV adaptation of Henry James' devastating novel about conflicts of taste and values, centered around a mother's passion for her exquisite possessions and her determination to have her son marry a woman who will cherish them. Don't miss the opening of this since it introduces all the central characters; the implacable Mrs. Gerth; the beautiful Fleda Vetch whom she favors; her weak son Owen whom she dominates and confuses; and Mona Brigstock, the aggressive, mercenary girl Owen has got himself engaged to.

The bidding started out tamely but all of a sudden Sojth jumped to four spades and he was faced with a real problems. Should he bid five hearts and risk the probable penalty or should he pass and try to beat four spades? He decided on the latter course' and passed as did North and East. Then he played his ace of clubs and positively beamed when he saw dummy hit the table with one heart and no ace of spades. Jerry Lewis CINEMA HWT.

"Pretty good wasn't it?" he asked. "I would be down at five hearts." "Brilliant, but probably unsuccessful," was our comment. We turned out to be right. The bidding started the same way at the other table but West bid a cheery five hearts over South's four spades. North, caught in the swing of things went right to five spades and West doubled when the bidding got back to him.

West also opened the ace of clubs but did not risk the under-lead in hearts and only set five spades one trick, but did score 100 points instead of SO. (Newspaper Enterprise AIM.)
