(CP) Narrow gains and losses spotted the Toronto exchange board and there was little change in the average of prices at noon today. Volume improved a little to 173.000 shares for the first hour.

IOuvicourt had a burst of strength and the price touched 1.50 in a short splash of action. It then settled back to 1.35 for a net gain of 15 cents. Steep Rock advanced 25 cents to 3.10 and minor gains were held by Pend Oreille. Uranium, Noranda and Normetal. Fleet Aircraft was a strong spot in the industrial section, gaining 3-4 to 6 1-8.

It also carries a tank containing 300 gallons of water. If called to a nearby fire where there is no water quickly available, it can immediately connect the tank, start the booster, and go to work.

The new apparatus as soon as it arrived was given two trial tests before Fire Chief Beattie, the mayor, members of the municipal council and a considerable number of ratepayers. The first hose was attached to a hydrant at the high school. There was no extra pressure at the waterworks pumping station, yet the booster quickly ran the pressure up to maximum. Cecil K. Wolff of the ROAF has just returned to his home ir. Arnprior after three and a half years service overseas during which he paid an extended visit to that other Arnprior in Scotland, foi which place this town was named 125 years ago by Chief Archibald McNab in whose Scottish estat Arnprior was prominent and who came out here to colonize, retrieve his fallen fortunes and regain the prestige and leadership of his clan.

It is an oft-repeated story he was a failure, except for the colonists he brought from Scotland and the township he founded and still bears his name. Sgt. Wolff describes Scotland'5 Arnprior as an idyllic little place in a pastoral setting with the same little post office btilding from which Bob Roy once made his remarkable escape and which event Sir Walter Scott weaves into a romantic story. The people of the older Arnprior are very interested in the people and customs of the Arnprior over here, the war has increased their affection for all Canadians, but especially for those who hail from these valleys of the Madawaska and the Dochert. Nowhere was a Canadian more welcome than in Stirling and Perthshire.

Only three miles from Ampricr in the heart of Scotland is the village of Kippen and, of course. Sgt. Wolff visited there, because the place bears the name of the Am prior young lady whom he has returned to wed before continuing his journey to the Pacific theater cf war.
