13 (AP) Sheik W. Abdurrahman Lutz, who used to be plain William Lutz, says he has become Grand Mufti of the' Western United States. The young former United States marine said he adopted the Moslem faith in Saudi Arabia in 1942. "I'm not prophetic," he said, and "there was no 'flash-of-light' revelation. "I became interested in the faith when I saw the compassion, the charity of the true Moslem." Bisley Champion Has Aiming Son By Foster Barclay A 14-year-old freckled-faced lad with a friendly grin sprawled on the grass behind a shooting mound at Connaught Ranges where his father was making a fair show of smacking bullets in the bull's-eye 300 yards away yesterday confessed he harbored a burning desire to win the King's Prize at Bisley. The youth was Cadet W. D. (Just call me Desmond) Burke of Toronto and the man on the mound was quiet, serious-faced Major Desmond T.

Burke, who gained fame when he did just that at the age of 19 and also won the King's medal in Canada six times. It's only natural that the son of a King's prize winner should hold that ambition, but young Desmond hadn't given it thought until Maj Burke return-from four years with the medical corps, overseas. In fact, the cadet fired his first shot over a large-bore range last spring. "I never considered, taking up shooting seriously," he said, "but after dad returned from overseas things changed. V-JDay Commemorate By Claude Ilammerston Radio Editor, The Evening Citizen Today is V-J Day, plus two years, and although the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation has listed nothing in special pom-memoration, the Columbia Broadcasting System will mark the anniversary with a one hour special documentary program to be aired over WCBS and the network at 10.00 "clock. With Robert Montgomery, the motion picture star, and former Commander in the U.S. Navy daring the war, as narrator. CBS presents "We Went Back." It will be an authentic American synthesis of interviews and sound effects gathered in a recently completed 50,000 mile tour of war areas by CBS correspondents who retraced the invasion routes to give ex-GI's and their families and friends a picture of conditions along roads to victory as they are today. The program is in co-operation with This Week magazine section of the New York Herald Tribune, which devoted its entire weekend edition to a visual version of "We Went This, although strictly an American broadcast for American consumption should make interesting listening.

Each day as I prepare this column of radio program highlights. I look over the material and find that crime and crime prevention dramas are always among the programs most highlighted by the publicity departments of all three American networks. Of course, there is a good reason for this. The biggest majority of radio dramatic programs are whodunits, and these programs undoubtedly have a large listening audience. Tonight's episode of "Suspense" WCBS 8.00 o'clock) presents Donald O'Connor, young screen comedian and dancer in the role of a vain dishwasher whose concern over the beauty of his hands leads him into serious trouble.

(He must have gotten wise to dishpan and certainly could not be a faithful follower of the soap operas.) "The Lodger," famous spine-tingling thriller by Mrs. Belloc-Lowndes which was filmed so successfully recently, will be given on "Mystery in the Air," starring Peter Loire at 10.00 p.m., over WNBC. It's the strange tale of a mentally maladjusted scientist who falls in love with beautiful dancers and then strangles them. He meets a famous beauty of the day who is an actress, becomes enamoured of her, and plans her murder only to be foiled by a clever detective just as he takes the final step in his plan. A CBC drama on "Request Performance" over CBO at 11.00 pm.

concerns a tale written on the life work of one John Robbins, a kindly country minister. At first I thought that this one would be free cf anything on the subject of crime, but a closer look at the material showed that he (Robbins) in his day fought juvenile delinquency and liquor. It's tough to get away from the crime angle, but I'll do it by going on to music. Works by contemporary Canadian composers, two of them Vancouver men will be heard during tonight's broadcast. "Concert of Nations" (CBO 11.30 o'clock).

This NBC program has, for past weeks, presented concerts by Canadian choral groups. Featured on the program will be the CBR Singers under the direction of Burton Kurth and a string orchestra conducted by Albert Steinberg, with Pearl Kerr as piano accompanist. Composers to be represented are Sir Ernest MacMillan. whose arrangements of two folk tunes win be played by the orchestra, and his "Recessional" by the choir. The other composers represented are, Alfred Whitehead, Healey Willan.
