If we have shown lhat mineral from the forks of Picatolica can be delivered on the lake as cheaply as it can on the Mis issippi river, we think there will be no difficulty in showing that it can he sent to its ultimate market cheaper in that direction than by the other. Vessels sailing hence carry it for return freight or ballast to Buffalo or other ports on the lakes foi a mere nominal sum. And on the lakes will it find a very considerable and red lead manufactories, shot works, rolling mills, c.

may as readily be i-rected here an in New York and other Atlantic cities, and the manufactured article can as well be sent from our Chores as the raw material for which we receive in return, perhaps in the same vessel, the manufactured article for home use. By this process of manufacture at home a large proportion of Ihe produc of our mines would find a home market and a very considerable proportion of the United States would receive from those products in a manufactured state more cheaply than if loaded with freight charges to the A a i and buck. But suppose that the New York and other eastern markets must be arrived at. nolens volens, as we admit mu it be the case for much the greater portion of these products, still the proposed, method of transport will be cheaper for that part of our mines contained within the ea 'tern district, than the Mississippi route. Freight from Milwaukee to Buffalo will be less than from Galena to New Orleans-and from Buffalo to New York about the same as from New Orleans to New York.

This, we think, cannot be denied but however it may be disposed of in the minds of individuals, one fad is incontrovertible, viz. that the domestic supply of the States and counties bordering on tbe lakes will be received more readily through the proposed STEAMBOAT Monday last 1 is fine vessel came in from Buffalo. The principal cases of interest were those of the two Indians for the murder of Ellsworth Burnette, and the attempted murder of James Clyman, near Rook river, in the fall of 1S35. It will be seen from our marine list that steamboat James Madison has made i nether trip. The Michigan also arrived Tuesday.

They brought a considerable i of passengers for this place. An unsuccessful attempt was made on ihe 3d inst. to rob the Michigan bank. An entrance was effected through the front window, and the drawers broken open, but lothing taken, as the money had been scared in the vault. The reported failure of General Jackson, standing the loss of blood occasioned thereby, succeeded in outrunning the two Indians, and in a state of great exhaustion reached Milwaukee in about forty-two hours.

Mr. Clyman was present and gave evidence on the trial. The prisoners are of the Menorronre tribe--father and son. The trial of the old man was brought on yesterday, but the had no? returned a verdict when our paper went press. Amable Carbono was indicted for the murder of his wife, on Fox river, near Green Bay.
