An impressive memorial service for a fallen hero was held in Bell Street Methodist church last night. The man whose name was honored was Private Oscar Pingle, who was only pecently officially reported killed in action 011 June 2 last. He had been among the missing until definite evidence of his death on that date was secured. As is the custom a star was added to Pte. Pingle's name on the church honor roll.

There are two stars now, and a long list of names of men who are still in the game or preparing to go into it. Pte. Pingle wrote always cheerful letters with every line evincing a monly spirit. Rev. T.

Auson Halpenny, pastor of the church who conducted the service read some extracts from the late young soldier's letters last night and gave 8 very thoughtful address on his life and sacrifice for the cause. The honor roll was draped in black during the service. One of the most stirring parts of a service of solemnity was the beautiful rendering of the "Last Post" by Bugler Fraser of the 207th battalion. Clearly and faultlessly the notes of the bugle rose and fell as a requiem for the repose of the soul of him who lies in a soldier's grave in far-off France. The late Pte.

Pingle was a ber of the Diamond club of "Bell Street Church. The club members attended the service in a body. Pte. Kearns, who was a chum of the late soldier at the front and who has been invadided home from the war was also present. The late Pte.

Pingle was 21 years old and was born in Bowmanville, where a mourning mother father, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Pingle, now live. He was a piano tuner by occupation and lived at 45 Louisa here, with his brother, George W. Pinige, who is also a piano tuner.

was in the 4th battalion the 6th Canadian Mounted Rifles. Late David Denmark. The death occurred of David Denmark, a well known Ottawan in a local hospital on Saturday after a very brief illness. Mr. Denmark was in his sixty-ninth year, and had enjoyed the best of health until about two weeks ago when he caught what was at first thought to be a light cold.

Later his condition became more serious and he was removed to a hospital where all that medical skill could do to prolong his life was done, but to no avail. Mr. Denmark passed away on Saturday morning. The late Mr. Denmark was born in Ottawa and lived here all his life.

During the last ten years he was an employee of the city and worked on the roads. He leaves to mourn him an only daughter, Mrs. A. Marsden of this city, and three brothers and five sisters. The funeral will take place today at 2 p.m.
