KN ABB, P. An ELEriuKT in Love. A number of years ago two menageries were laid uj for Winter in a storehouse ou the bank of: the canal" at Pittsburgh. Ilerc' Nannibifl for the first time was thrown into the society of Queen Anne. They were fastened side by side, and an immediate attachment sprang up between them.

It was a case of love at first sight, for the moment Queen Anne was brought into Hannibal's presl ence she ruil her trunk into his mouth the elaphantine style of kissing. All winter long they wcje continually caressing each other, and their demonstrations of mutual affection were really oxtraord'mary. In the Spring, Queen Anne was taken away to start upon her annual tour. The rage of Hannibal at this separation was lorrine; for eleven days he refused to touch a rnor set of food, the only nourishment lie 'received during that time being whiskey and water. Jy dint ol a continual swaying or surging against his fastening he succeeded in breaking loose ou the twelfth day, whrn he took possession of the establishment.

The animals in the cages were fearfully frightened, dashing ugaiust their bars and filling the air with iiowls and shrieks. Hannibal raged around the building, reared on his hind feet and endeavored to tear down the rafters in the roof wit his trunk but molested none of the animals. In the meantime a large force of men was gatheredsteel hooks attached to long poles were inserted into his shoulders, and after great ililliculty he was and cast when the customary discipline was applied with the usual satisfactory result! Queen Anne, who was of a more gentle dispesi tion bore the separation with exemplary resignation.
