Cardinal struck gold in the masters 400 metres, silver in the masters 100 and 200 metres and teamed with Cornwall RCMP's Denis Constant, Ottawa City policemen Marino Sani and Terry Friday for a 4x100 open relay silver. He added a silver in the senior 4x400 relay with Metro Toronto's Ken Davis, Ottawa RCMP's Ray Elrick, Ha-milton-Wentworth's Ken Wilson. Friday took the badminton singles silver then teamed with Angelo Fiore for the doubles gold.

Ottawa constable Blair Gem-mell won gold in the senior hammer with Toronto RCMP officer Gerry Gault taking the masters hammer gold. Wilson gained gold in the senior 800 metres and silver in the senior 1,500. Elrick won the senior masters 1,500 and earned silver in the 800. Mike Crosby of the London City police claimed silver in the open hammer and Don Smawley of Surrey B.C. RCMP silver in the high jump.

More than 3,000 law enforcement officers from around the world are competing in Jesse Owens Stadium. Shooting Britain's John Pugsley won the Macdonald Stewart grand aggregate at the 104th annual Dominion of Canada Rifle Association matches at Connaught Range Friday. Pugsley totalled 514 of a possible 830 points with teammate John Warburton second at 805 and Hull policeman Alain Marion third at 802. With a single qualifying match remaining, Marion leads the Bisley aggregate with 802 followed by Toronto's Pat Vam-plew at 799 and Vancouver's George Frazer 797. Richmond B.C.'s Bob Best took the Gibson match in a three-way shootoff with Vam-plew and Aylmer's Bill Knott.

All had tied at 149x150. A shootoff also was necessary in the President's match with Victoria's Jim Paton besting Marion and Britain's Charles Cunningham. Toronto's Marc Ruffolo took the Viscount Wakefield cadet aggregate with 250 out of 255. Strathmore, Edith Dyas-Brown won the Tess Spencer trophy as the top female in the grand aggregate competition. Jeff Biggar of Fisherville, Ont, won the short range aggregate in a shootoff with Frazer and Montreal's Susanna Kong.

Great Britain outscored Canada 1115-1089 in the Commonwealth match. Heading into today's Governor-General's final, Pugsley set the pace with Cunningham and Paton in hot pursuit. Under the guiding hand of Jean Southworth, a book on the club's history is being assembled and every member from now and then is urged to be included. They ask you forward any photos, artifacts, anecdotes or other items of interest to Jean co the Club.

They promise return of said items in good condition. Deadline for such book entries is October so don't procrastinate. Officials also are seeking to upgrade their mailing lists for past members. 29-Sept. 1 for the fifth annual Ottawa Valley Tri-Sport competition plus the second annual Oldtimers Puck and Ball competition. The popular affair features two 12-team Divisions (A B) competing in hockey, slo-pitch softball and touch football games so it's apparent versatility is the key for any team. Each team is guaranteed six games and the $400 team entry fee could return as much as $1,500 in cash and prizes. The 12 oldtimers' teams will do battle in hockey and slo-pitch softball.
