The Hamburg Robbery. Our readers will remember that some time since, Win. Schomo, a merchant of Hamburg, was rob bad of dry goods to the value of some $1,500. Recently he found out that a col ored man had sent from Reading to Philadelphia, a chest sontaining dry goods, and upon investigation, he indent ified some of them as his own. The negro who sent the chest, and the Irishman who received it in Philadelphia, are now in Moyamensing prison awaiting their trial.

The Election. The Election of yes terday (at least up to the ime of writing) passed off very quietly. This is as it should be. There is often too much excitement connected with our No man's vote weighs any more, if he casts it unpleasantly if he growls, scolds or fights. A mad man, may feel like the Hoosier in Indiana, that 7e weighs a ton but his vote weighs no more.

We believe in candid, fair and friendly debate on all subieeta it inquiry and brings truth to light "ui wo always did oppose angry dispute, much more a careless way some people have of handling pistols and other deadly weapons. Keep cool. If your party lms triumphed, keep cool; if you are beaten, keep cool at least, such is our advice. How the Money Order System will Work. Tim person sending gives his name at the post office, and also the name the party to whom it is to be sent.

A receipt for the money and the order is then given him, and letter is immediately forwarded from the post office Avherc the order is prepared to the office of the place in which the person resides who is to recti the money. On the latter presenting the fvrder previously sent to. him by the person Who procured it, ho is asked the mime of the person 6euding (which is not on the or dr), aud if the answer is satisfactory the money is paid. Hon.

Mr. Lewis, Com. Int. Rev. Sir: If the price of a photograph is five dollars, and the subsequent coloring or retouching five dollars additional, are stamps to be used for the photograph alone, or lor the whole amount ten dollars? If.

we col or or retouch a photograph taken elsewhere is it Jneccssary to use stamps for the amount ofworkdone. Yours Truly, Bendann Bros. Treasury Department, Office of Int. Rev. Washington July 20, 1804 Gentlemen: In reply to your letter of the 28th inst.

I have to say, that the pho tograph, or other picture embraced by the law, must be stamped according to the full value of the picture, the frame, the coloring and any other trimmings that may be added. The stamp or stamps U3ed must correspond to the price charged for the whole, and not for the picture alone. Where you color or retouch pictures, you must stamp such retouched pictures in accordance with the price you charge for labor and materials, that is to say, the charge to your customer must constitute the basis of stamp duty. Enclosed is a copy of schedule showing the rates of taxation. E.
