COMPOSER FOR 40 YEARS Author of Texas, Pride of South, Writes Another Song to Laud Her Native State OLETA PARKER ROTA.V, June 8-Mrs. Ella Hudson Day, nationally recognized composer, song writer and pen- woman, has recently published her second Texas song, Ttjas, meaning 'friendly Texas. Pride of the South, published by Mrs. Day in )909. has been in continuous use in Texas EChooJrooms and featured in such celebrations as the Texas Centennial at Dallas and the Cotton Palace at Waco.

Both songs were written in an "overflow of patriotism," Mrs. Day said, and bespeak love for her na live state. The new sons eulogizes the friendly tribe of Te.ias Indians and the steady beat of torn toms is carried in rhythmic overtones in the song's lively tempo. "I do not write music because I want to--I write it because 1 must get it out of my system and that seems the only practical way to do it," Mrs. Day said.

She has been composing continuously for 40 years. Most of her compositions deal with subjects of state and nation, i home and family and a sprinkling of humorous sketches making up the balance. An accomplished pianist and soloist, she also plays string instruments. MRS. ELLA HUDSON DAY Days helped found the town of Rotan in 1907.

The famous Cowboy Band of Mrs. Day has appeared as guest artist on numerous programs for clubs, schools and collfges and in presentations over Ft Worth and Dallas radio She was once featured in a 45-minule regional program of the Dallas Branch League of American Pemvomen. With poetry, fiction and newspaper writing as lesser creative Society of Texas, Slate Board of Federated Women's Clubs, Daughters of Confederacy, district chairman of Indian Welfare, Speech Arts Teachers Association of Texas and the Dramatic Readers Club. Rotan activities hive includec organizer and president of the Ro tan Choral club, correspondin secretary of the 21 Club, chair man of Fisher county music for th Federated Clubs and active leac ership in musical programs fo clubs, churches and schools in tru area. Because of family illness, she re tired from club activity during the 1930's.

Lauded by press and magazin. publications during the hey of her musical and literary activities, Mrs. Day has receivec enough publicity to fill a half dozen large scrap books. Instead they are piled helter skelter ir one book. "I've always been a bit on the lazy side." Mrs.
