Sunday's Walk America is a 15 miles-historial tour of Ann Arbor over a marked Tvoute. J2 Walkers are asked to sign up spon-Ijors, who pledge a specified amount 'of money per kilometer walked. kSFwds will be donated to the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation. A is born with a birth defect in Library Association, the special week is being observed by libraries around the country.

On Tuesday, many of the libraries in the state participated in a project called, "A Day in the Life of MichiganJLibraries." The libraries spent Tuesday taking pictures, slides, videotapes and audio recordings, detailing a typical day at the library. The idea is to show the variety, creativity and hard work that fills the day of a Michigan librarian. The materials will be sent to the Michigan Library Association in May, and will then be compiled by the MLA staff. Livingston County's libraries are helping this week to celebrate National Library Week, set for April 17-23. The libraries are using the week to make people aware of what resources are available at the library.

These resources include records, videotapes, compact discs, children's story hours, computer software and the latest best-sellers. Livingston County's public libraries include the Brighton Public Library, the Carnegie Library in Howell, the Fowlerville Library, the Hamburg Library, the Cromaine Library in Hartland and the Pin-ckney Library. Sponsored by the American tT4 I je 11 1 'i this country every two minutes, the March of Dimes reports. Each walker will be provided with a sheet, pointing out locations of historic interest and buildings of note along the route. Last year, Walk America raised more than $56,000 in the three-county area of Livingston, Monroe and Washtenaw.

The bus will arrive at the Ann Arbor starting point-at the Ann Arbor Transportation Authority building on South Industrial near Eisenhower-by 8 a.m. The walk will begin at 9 and participants will be bused back to McPherson Middle School at 4:30 Friday, April 22, noon Brown Bag Lunch and Book Review, presented by Friends of the Library.

George Keith reviews "The Prince of Tides," by Pat Conroy. April 18-23 is National Library Week. An estimated 27 million American adults cannot read or write well enough to function in our society. To combat illiteracy, the American Library Association and the National Commission on Libraries and Information Science have launched a campaign with the theme, "The Best Gift You'll Ever Give Your Child A Library Card." Howell Carnegie Library calendar of events: Thursdays, 10:30 a.m. Preschool Storytime in the children's department for boys and girls ages 3-5.

(There will be no Storytime on April 28). Fridays, 1-5 p.m. Janet Rohrabacher will assist patrons with genealogy research and persons who want to use the Howell Archives in the library. Saturdays; 9:30 a.m.-WHMI Radio Storytime, 1350 AM, 93.5 FM. Wednesdays, p.m.
