5-B ABILENE REPORTER-NEWS April IS, ItU TOWN NEWS $2,617 Collected in Cancer Neighbor-to-Keighbor Drive Collections from the neighbar-to neighbor drive of the cancer campaign reached $2,617.32 by late Thursday afternoon with returns from only one elementary school district and pjrts of two others still missing. Mrs. Robert G. Stone, co-chairman of the drive, estimated that 20 to 25 per cent of the envelopes were still out. The envelopes were distributed Wednesday in Abilene.

One envelope was taken to each block. Resident of the blocks wore to pass on the so that p.ll Homes had an opportunity to contribute. The envelopes also contained educational literature aboul cancer for eacli home. The envelopes were taken to the First State Bank after being picked up, and were counted there. Residents i envelopes not picked up can get pickup service by contacting Mrs.

Stone, Mrs, V. M. Curry or Mrs. Brian C. Brooks, officials in the campaign.

Wins Scholarship Winner of the $500 Maggie W. Barry scholarship good in four accredited colleges in Texas was Lawanda Vinson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dow- Vinson, Route 1, Tiis- cola. Floyd Lynch, College Station, state 4-H Club leader, made this announcement Wednesday.

Makes Application To Build Pipeline WASHINGTON, April UH--An application has been made by Lone Star Gas Co. of Dallas to build a pipeline to supply gas to Natural Gas Pipe Line Co. of America, Chicago, which serves the Chicago area. Lone Star asked the Power Commission for authority to construct a line from gas fields in Cotton County, to Fritch, about 230 miles.

Natural Gas has proposed to build a 350-mile line from Frilcb to wells in Jack and Wise counties in Texas. At Fritch, the company has an existing system which gathers gas from wells in the Texas Panhandle and moves it lo the Chicago area. John Scott of Lone Star said his proposal is competitive with Natural Gas' application now under study by the commission. The Chicago firm proposes to pay 16 cents a thousand cubic feet for gas. Lone Star and other gas companies contend this would force an increase of 4 cents in the ll-cent rate they now pay in Jack Wise counties.
