LIVINGSTON COUNTY PRESS WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER H. H7 SB 'Foreigner' LP won't make Presents I I friends POHL DINNER WITH SANTA December 11 12, 1979 5:30 p.m. Reservation tickets available from McDonald's of Howell only if 4- i SCOTT using the same formulas of both his previous solo discs, "Celebrate Me Home" and "Nightwatch The sound is starting to wear a little thin There's the trendy "This Is It," with Doobie Brother Michael McDonald co-writing and singing he seems to be popping up everywhere lately) Frankly, Kenny Loggins appears to be trying too hard for hits. The Messina album is better "EAT TO THE BEAT," Blondie (Chrysalis Records) A contender for best LP title of 1979 "Dreaming" is the first single, doing quite well with the polished Mike Chapman sound "Atomic" is a re-tread of the thumping synthesizer sound of their only real hit. "Heart of Glass." For a real rocker, I like the title track, while Deborah Harry might be telling her life story on "Die Young Stay Pretty I like it "I WANT YOU," Wilson Pickett (EMI American Records) One of my favorite singers from the 60s 'remember "Mustang Sally" and "Funky has tried too hard here in an effort for a disco hit.

His distinctive voice is buried in the dance-track mix for the entirety of side two "Love of My Life" is great, but the rest is disappointing "YVONNE." Yvonne Elliman (RSO Records Yvonne handles a medley of classics, "Sticks and Stones Hit the Road Jack," surprisingly well "Love Pains" is moving up the singles charts, and the ballad "Everything Must Change" is very pretty Far from outstanding, "Yvonne" is a steady effort by a strong vocalist The concert schedule includes these acts at the Royal Oak Music Theatre: Rory Gallagher Nov 30, and Martin Mull Dec 1. The Who appears Dec 7 at the Pontiac Mini-dome. Ask the hostess for more details a SEATING LIMITED Make your reservations early 4 43 a ma the same, I would guess that most people can tell how Foreigner feels about women by checking out the cover art. It's bad enough that the girl on the cover has to scrub Foreigner's graffiti off the side of a men's room stall, but she looks scared i as well she should be). Perhaps I'm making too much of all this, but I find it hard to believe that any modern-day men actually still think like this.

There are some good things about "Head Games." Jones hits close to the mark on "Blinded by Science," the best song here The LP is produced by Roy Thomas Baker, who makes Foreigner sound a bit rougher than ever before. Lou Gramm's vocals are still among the best in rock music, and the underrated member of Foreigner remains Al Greenwood, whose keyboard flourishes are a big part of their platinum-selling sound. Overall, however, I find "Head Games," and the first single "Dirty White Boy," to be a poor effort from a band that once showed a lot of promise for the future. If they have any female fans left now, it'll be a miracle. QUICK LOOKS: "Oasis," Jimmy Messina, and "Keep the Fire," Kenny l-oggins (both on Columbia Records) Once a prized act as a duo, Loggins and Messina broke up a number of years ago In the meantime, "Keep the Fire" is Kenny's third solo LP, while Jimmy's "Oasis" is his first.

Of the two, Messina appears to have made the most radical changes in musical approach. "Oasis" is a fazzy, funky album that deserves to be heard The reeds of Craig Thomas sound especially nice with Jimmy's voice. Check out "New and Different Way" to see what I mean. A very enjoyable album. The Loggins album displays Kenny It flu McDonalds Mcgonak WEST VIRGINIA SEMI-BONELESS WHOLE HAMS Good on Manufacturers' "Cents-off" Coupons Only.

1979 female When Foreigner first hit the airw aves with "Feels Like the First Time" from their debut album in 1976, it sounded like we had a band on our hands with style, moxy, and class. The entire feel of that album was one of lust, with at least a fair amount of love to justify it all. "Feels Like the First Time" expressed how anyone feels with a new lover. Back in those days, women were more than mere objects to the members of Foreigner, or so they would have us believe Sure, that LP had "Headknocker," so they realized that love has its drawbacks, too In the meantime, though, the band appears to have decided that sex is a mere mechanical exercise, with women taking the role of a set of barbells They can be fun to work out with, but when you're done with them, leave em in the gym "Head Games" shows Foreigner's stance to be chauvinist at best. The new album, on Atlantic Records, includes tales of how awful things can get when you deal with women Their view is narrow, to say the least, not to mention quite unattractive for today's would-be intellectual male Most obvious is the Mick Jones tune.

"Women." Jones pigeonholes an entire gender with "Women that you write songs about Women that turn around and kick you out Women you dream about all your life Women that stab you in the back with a switchblade knife." What's the matter, Mick? Somebody done you wrong'' On "I'll Get Even With You," Jones shows a penchant for revenge that should scare off any prospective lovers And right in the middle of all these pronouncements from Jones, he says "I stand up for my pride I don't wanna be just like anyone." You've got that right, Mick, but women deserve IT'S A GIRL!
