Virginia 34, Missouri 10 Oklahoma St at Nebraska Nebraska 42, Wyoming 32 Colorado at Missouri OU Runs By ISU, 34-6 By Bob Hersom Staff Writer NORMAN Oklahoma broke out of its rush limbo with a liberal sprinkling of offensive formations Saturday.

The Sooners, who had been averaging only 3.8 yards on running plays, averaged 5.9 yards on runs (and 11.5 on pass completions) while beating winless Iowa State 34-6 on Owen Field. With a wide variety of offensive sets from the wishbone to the I formation to the shotgun to split-backs the Sooners rushed for a season-high 334 yards and completed 11 of 14 passes for 126 yards. The victory gave OU a 3-1 record, left ISU at 0-5 for the first time since 1930, and boosted the Sooners' winning streak to 54 straight games when rushing for 300 yards or more. "I think this game all goes back to our ability to run the football better," said OU coach Gary Gibbs, whose Sooners have had only two 300-yard rushing games in the last two seasons. "We still have to be balanced and able to pass, but our running game was really the key to the ballgame." OU's dormant running game was helped by the multiple formations, including the wishbone on 24 of the Sooners' 71 plays.

UntU Saturday, OU hadn't use the wishbone, except in goal-line or short-yardage situations, since 1989. Tailback-halfback James Allen had a career-high 111 yards on 16 carries. He also scored two touchdowns in a game for the first time since his Wynnewood High School days. Tailback-halfback Jeff Frazier, in by far his best game for OU, had a career-high 72 yards on 10 carries. And tauback-turned-fullback Jer-ald Moore carried 10 times for 73 yards and one TD.

The Three Tailback Tandem was more than complemented by quarterback Garrick McGee, who completed 11 of 13 passes for 126 yards. McGee's first passing attempt was intercepted. His second attempt was incomplete, but it See OU, Page 7-B Buffs Slip Past Texas AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Colorado didn't need a miracle this time just Rashaan Salaam, Herchell Troutman and Neil Voskeritchian. One week after beating Michigan on a last-second, 64-yard pass, the fifth-ranked Buffaloes downed No. 16 Texas 34-31 on Saturday behind Salaam's 317-yard rushing effort, Troutman's three TD runs and Voskeritchian's 24-yard field goal with one second left.

"A lot of people think Colorado is lucky because they keep winning at the buzzer. They are not," Texas coach John Mackovic said. "I'll take a boring win any time. I feel like I've aged 10 years in seven days." Salaam carried 35 times and gained the most yards ever against the longhorns, topping the 251 by Pittsburgh's Curtis Martin in Texas' season opener and Southern Cal's C.J.

On Saturday afternoon against 13th-ranked East Texas State, he showed a little smash. The senior from Putnam City High School carried a school-record 45 times for 241 yards and two touchdowns as the lOth-ranked Bronchos won 16-7 before 1,350 football fans at Wantland Stadium. Aska's rushing total, the fourth-best effort in UCO history, came against the Lone Star Conference's top rushing defense, which had allowed just 85 yards per game.

As a result, the Bronchos won their LSC opener for the first time since joining the league and NCAA Division II in 1988. UCO, which snapped a seven-game losing streak against ETSU, extended its winning streak to See BRONCHOS. Page 8-B goal, but North Texas took a safety on a fourth-and-13 situation with 1:33 remaining. "By all rights, and I sincerely mean this, we probably didn't deserve to win the football game," said Cowboy coach Pat Jones. "I told (UNT coach) Matt Simon that.

But we probably deserve some of this stuff now, we've been on the flip side of it, basically since we went on probation (in 1989). "I was really proud, though.
