W. McLendon and 45 Workers Hear Inspirational Talks A J. Hartel Names Workers; Cleveland Tops Goal on D-I)ay TIIK STARS ARE COMING! Four Hollywood movie stars, with a pair of war heroes and a sparkling master of ceremonies, will come to Liberty County Tuesday, June 20, to help push the Fifth War Loan drive over the top. Liberty and Daisetta will be visited by the party. The appearances were arranged by A.

R. Milentz of the Park and Daisetta Theatres, through Texas war activities committee. The party will include: Raymond Walburn, well-known character actor; Lassies White, comedian, who played with Tim Holt in westerns; Jean Brooks and Jeri Wayne, RKO starlets. Definite plans are being worked out today by Liberty County War Bond leaders with Francis Farris, advance agent for the stars. They will be announced by circulars, posters, etc.

E. W. McLendon, chairman, reports $135,000 pledged in two days work, Monday and Tuesday, in the Fifth War Loan Diive in the city of Liberty. Forty-five enthusiastic men and women gathered for breakfast in the city hall in Liberty Monday morning, June 12. at the call of W.

McLendon, chairman of Fifth War Loan Drive for the City of Liberty. Following the invocation by Rev. Bruce Power, Mr. McLendon introduced Frank Doughurty as the master of ceremonies, A. J.

Hartel, Liberty County chairman of War Finance, was introduced and responded with explanations and detailed instructions on selling Bonds in the Fifth War Loan Drive. Inspirational talks were given by K. B. Pickett, Nathan Waldman and Col. R.

W. followed by a subscription drive conducted by Dean Tevis. The impromptu drive netted the committee $67,500. This starts off the quota which has been named as $250,000. Mr.

McLendon named the following workers for the city of Liberty, giving them definite locations and names to solicit: E. C. Fuller and Doc Holstead; Mrs. E. Buchanan and Mrs.

Brookshire; W. C. Crawley; Mrs. L. Waldrop; M.

The quota for Liberty County is $760,000 and the appeal for this drive is one that goes home to each one so definitely that we feel that the quota will be oversubscribed well within the limit set, stated Mr. Hartel. Mr. Hartel expressed warm appreciation to Cleveland, which was over the top on D-Day with its quota of $150,000.

First because it is so urgently needed by our Government, said Chief Bob, and second because the proceeds will go to the fire department for necessary up-keep and equipment. The Liberty fire department will send trucks to any home in the city, or to any community, to collect scrap Iron. Clean up your yard, farm, garage, barn gather iron, put It in a convenient place and call the Liberty Chamber of Commerce or The Liberty Vindicator, and the message will be given to the firemen to collect it. If there is no truck pick-up for fats in town, the butcher shop can ship in 50 to 100 pound steel drums, collect, to nearest renderer, by express. Liberty can send its fats to the Jefferson Packing Company, Port Arthur Road, Beaumont; or to any of the following companies in Houston; Dixon Packing Company, 108 Milan street; Houston Packing Company, Houston Grease Company, Texas Soap Company, Finnigan Hide Company.
