Chase mtP gjgynftfo FRIDAY, DECEMBER 27. 1889, THE WEATHER AND COAL Tbt UnMMonalilt HUdam NilMilAf fsotlna; tn XrAdf. It has been figured oat that ever warm day between the first of December and the brat of Marco, reduces tie aemauu lor aa thraoite 25,000 ton, and if this is true the iniurv wrooffht the trade is apparent. At reseu there is almost a million tons of fuel at tide and if spring opens with such a surplus on hand the trade all next year will be worse than it has been for the year closing. Prices are naturally very low, the circular being shaded as much as 6fty cents a ton on prepared sizes.

It is reported the Coxes are selling stove ooal in New York at $3.75 a ton, which is 65 cents below the circular and 25 cents under midsummer rates. Of course it is most unfortunate that the operators should be thus forced to ave their fuel awav. but thev can not do otherwise unless they want to throw their men into absolute idleness just at the beginning of winter, when they must have work. The coal trade is really in a critical condition, and it is to be sincerely hoped that the elements will come to its re lief before matters get worse. Mr.
