E.U. Answer: They can't. ABC isn't dropping "General Hospital." it's expanding it. On Jan. 16 the show goes to an hour, as will "One Life To Live." Rumors about "General Hospital" have been circulating for a long time, but ABC never intended on axing the program.

The alphabet network has a special feeling for the show since it is its oldest serial. "Edge of Night," which is a few years older, originated on CBS. I just read that "Ryan's Hope" is going to Ireland for Mary's honeymoon. Please pass it on to the writers that we hope it is Jack Fenelli. Not that jerk Tom Desmond.

No girl in her right mind would marry him over Jack. Mrs. P.M. The writers are ahead of you. On Dec.

1 Mary Ryan and Jack Fenelli will say I do all over again. Not that the scripters think the Tom Desmond character is a jerk. They just know how viewers feel about Mary and Jack. As for Tom Desmond, he isn't leaving. It's just a hunch, but Faith and Tom will probably become close.

Oh, Tom would never go to Ireland for anything. That "horrible" secret from his past bars him from ever going home. Is "Lover and Friends" the NBC soap that took a summer vacation ever going to return? It had just begun to get interesting when it went off the air. Ms. P.K.

The show is returning on Dec. 6 but will be called "For Richer-For Poorer." Last week two actors, Chris Jones and Rod Ahrents, made special guest appearances on "Another World" as friends of Rachel Corey. Reason for the visit was to interest "Another World" viewers in the "For Richer-For Poorer" storyline. Since both shows are produced by Paul Rauch it was easy to arrange. Many of the original cast members Pat Englund (Josie), Steven Joyce (George), Christine Jones (Amy) will be returning.
