SKPTUMBKK ,1947 BIATHICVJU.E (ARK.)iCQURIKR NKW3 PAG1 No More Storm Victims Stranded I Coast Guard Finds No One Still Marooned By Gulf Hurricane NEW ORLEANS, Sept. 20. (UP) — If there still were persons marooned in flooded swamplands bc- lo\v N'cw Orleans and In Hie backwaters or Mississippi's gulf coast today, the Const Guard couldn't find them. Cmdr. E, J. Suydan, assistant op- rations ottieer at Eighth Coast Jnard District Headquarters in Vcw Orleans, said the search would cmtimic, hut told tlie United Press we have cancelled our requests for additional helicopters." I iuydan said reports that snakes :l alligators-threatened persons re desperately in need, of air rescue led the Coast Guard to request extra helicopters. The aircraft were to have been flown to New Orleans in packet planes from Air Sen Rescue Units at Westover Field. Mass., and Ft. Bragg, N. C.. by the Army Transport Command. But, Siiyclan said, "We can't even find anybody to rescue ourselves." One Coast Guard helicopter patrolled close to the ground today, accompanied by a faster amphibious plane which offered radio protection. No hurricane victims were sighted. "We kno-x there are possibly 250 persons still missing," Suydan said, "but they arc not marooned!. It is simply that they have yet to contact their relatives or authorities in Southeast Louisiana and along the t!»lf coast. The situation is easing by the hour as these persons gradually show up.'" Euydan said MacDill Field, Fla., also iiad offered aid during the night in the form of hospital planes and air-sea resuce aircraft. "We were gratified." Suydan said, "but vre said 'No thanks.'
