THREE DRESS GOODS BARGAINS 50c Tweeds, SOc Zibelines SOc Coverts, Goods from our regular stock regular price and the most popular at less than fall fabrics, too.l The shades that most people are wanting are among them.

Isn't this a good opportunity to get winter dress materials THE BLACK SILK SALE Continues Black Silks One third to One half less than regular price. This sale has been a remarkable success. We have done the biggest silk business in point of yards that we ever did, and it has drawn heavily upon the immensely big quantity we had. But why shouldn't it have heen a success, there hasn't been such another opportunity in our recollection. As fast as you have made inroads, we have filled in the pans from the reserve, but we are not going to be able to do this much longer.

We repeat the price list, it is interesting. BlacK. Feau de Soie. 65e quality, 19 in. wide, 75c quality, 20 in.

BIG DAY FOR CAPE MAY CAPTAIN BARE CHRISTENS THE BIG" DREDGE THAT IS TO DIG A GREAT REFU GE HARBOR AROUND WHICH A NEW CITY 18 PLANNED. There was great jubilation In Cap May on Saturday when, in the presence of hundreds of guests from Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and the District of Columbia, what is said to be the largest dredge ever constructed was christened Pittsburg" by Capt. Charles Barr, the doughty commander of the great vacht. Reliance. The town was gaily decorated with flags and bunting.

Business was suspended during the middle of the day and all the people were on the streets and at the dredge cnristening. Two special trains from Philadelphi one over the Pennsylvania railroad via the bridsre route, the other over th Philadelphia Reading, carried the large number of visitors, who included government officials from Washington. officials from a number of cities within 500 miles of Cape May, prominent business and professional men. They were received by Mayor Thomas W. Millet, members of City Council and a.

large reception committee of Cape May citi zens. A band or music neaaea tne procession of trolley cars which carried the visitors to where the new Pittsburg was built for the express purpose of digging great harbor of refuge at the eastern end of Cape May, known Us Sewell's Point, and casting the bottom of the bay and sea into the lowlands there abounding and making of it lots upon which the houses, thestores, the hotels and the amusement places are to rise in the near future. It is mum in the same way that Chicago was built from the bottom of Lake Michigan and carne to be one of the large cities of America. It was in the same manner that Atlantic City has been spread across the state till it begins to assume the aspects of a seaside metropolis. The sands of the bottom come up out of great suction pipes and go scurrying across the meadows to form habitable land.

When all of the people were in position to see as much of the ceremony as possible, Captain Barr smashed a quart bottle of what looked like very good champagne upon the bow of the dredge, called it and the Third Regiment band, Philadelphia, which had gone down with the party and had done itself proud with "Hiawatha," burst forth into "The Star Spangled Banner," and made everybody want to take off his hat. even if the east wind was cutting capers across the unbroken stretch of meadow where the great harbor is to be. With the beginning of work, under the direction of the cape May Real estate Company, it was said that it was expected to dredge a harbor of refuge for yachts and coastwise vessels, twenty five feet deep and covering 600 acres. The sand excavated will be used to "nil" the surrounding 2,000 acres of land. Two years will be required to complete the operations.

With it go a new sew age system and boardwalk. Berks county was represented by Hon. Charles B. Spatz, of Boyertown, and John B. Dampman and Lewis G.

Early, of Reading. NEW PORT FOR LAKE MICHIGAN BEGINNING OF WORK I2Sf THE CONSTRUCTION OP SHIP CANAL COLOSSAL, UNDERTAKING' HAS ATTRACTED LITTLE NOTICE. rsoecial to The Times. Indianapolis, Oct. 25.

In the northwestern corner of Indiana, a short distance from Chicago, Governor Dur bln was the central figure in simple ceremonies yesterday afternoon that marked the beginning of a new epoch for that section and mean more for its industrial welfare than anything that has ever taken place before. The event is the beginning of work in the construction of the East Chicago Ship Canal, a colossal undertaking that so far has attracted little attention out side of the section immediately inter ested, but the general importance of which can hardly be ov erestimated. The canal is to lead from Lake Michigan to Wolf Lake and its most important result will be to make a great port for the town of Hammond and the surrounding district lying south and east of Chicago across the Indiana line. The district is already the location of many immense manufacturing enterprises and it is predicted that with the completion of the canal it will soon rival Chicago Itself in the extent and importance of its industries. The canal is to be three and one half miles in length, 100 feet wide and of sufficient depth throughout Its entire lensth to accommodate the largest ships on the Great Lakes.

Under the terms of the contract the first mile of the canal is to' be finished within one year and two years is the time limit fixed for the entire completion of the waterway.
