44 EEADnra.MARCH 29, 1 LOCAL.AFEAmS.i DkATH Or 4AEDCHBt8TIAN. Tlielttt number of the Reformed Church Messenger furnishes an interesting obituary of Mrs, Anna Hunter, a member pf the Reformed phurch at Amityville, this county, whose death oa4ae 12th the residence of her son in Mr. Jonas Kneads, in her ninety Iouth year, we have already mentioned, romhis; notice we glean the following facte iS ij, ji 1 Mrs. Hunter was born near Douglassvtlfe, in the year 1776, less than one month alter the promulgation of the Declaration of Inde pendence. As her father was a' Baptist, and her mother a member of the Society of Friends, she was not baptiaed in infancy, In early youth, however, she prevailed upon her parents to permit her to join a class of Catechumens at the Episcopal Church at Morlat ton, with a view to baptism and confirmation; but on the day on which she was to have been received into the Church, Bishop White was suddenly taken ill, and was therefore unable to meet his appointment.

During the subsequent week, her pareuU removed into what was then an exclusively German neighborhood, and her application1 for membership at Morlatton was not renewed. In 1799 she was married td Mr. Jacob Hunter, who, though otherwise an estimable, gentleman, was not a member 'of the Church, lie died in 1823, leaving his widow the care of a large family of small: children, most of whom subsequently became worthy members of the Reformed Church. During her i long widowhood Mrs. Hunter lived a righteous life, but she still hesitated about joining the church, being probably deterred by the ex ample of those who had been her nearest and dearest On the night of the 17th of May, 1867, when she had nearly reached her ninety second year, she was suddenly brought to a decision by a remarkable dream.

She dreamed she stood in the old Amity church, which she had often, visited in early life, but which was destroyed in 1796. Around the altar she saw the companions of her youth. evidently receiving the Lord's Supper. There was a vacant place in the circle which she longed to occupy, but felt that she had no right to do so. One or the communicants then turned round solemnly andsaidi "Anna if yon desire to take your place among us, defer it no, longer, Nov the accepted time." At these words she awoke, could sleep no.

more that night. At early dawn tie called Iter son in law, who was an elder, in, the church, and requested hiini toeeind for his pastor, Rev. J. II. Dubbs, as she desired to receive the sacrament.

Her request was granted, anil at the Same time messengers were sent to those of her descendents who reside in the neighborhood, to that by the time the minister arrived quite a little congregation had assembled in the room of their aged re lative. The scene witnessed when the acted catechumen meekly professed her faith and received the sacrament, is described as being peculiarly Interesting apdj impressive. After her reception Into the church 'she never suf fered a communion season to pass unobserved. Though unable to leave her room, her pastor regularly brought her the sacred elements, which she received with humble but unwaver ing faith, her duly cause of being that she had so long deferred laying hold of the promises of her Savior. During her last ill ness her pastor, Rev.

L. D. Lebei man, visited her frequently, and was astonished at her pro tound knowledge of religious truth, as well ai her unfaltering trust. Her end was. peaceful and she has gone to receive the reward of her faith in the hingdom of Him who never said to any, "seek ye: my lacejn vain," IiATEST MEWS, The Secretary of the Treasury hasdirec' ted the sale of $2,000,000 in gold, and pur chase of $2,000,000 in bonds for the sinking found during President Grant in reported to have ex pressed approval of most of the provisions of Senator' Wilson's army bill.

The President has refused to send troops to Tennessee, at the application of Governor Senter; oh the ground that the Constitution prohibits the call for troops when the Legist 1 lnture can be convened.
