The year-old female is awaiting a good home. Dogs and cats are available for adoption from noon to 5:45 p.m.

Tuesdays through Saturdays at the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter, 2811 SE 29. Dog adoption fees are $47 each, and the cat fee is $37 each. This includes city license, vaccinations and the spay-neuter operation. Those 60 years and older get a discount rate of $27 per pet. Due to space restrictions, last Monday's "Pet Projects" column was omitted from some sections of the newspaper.

Last week's adoptable pet, a black spaniel mix, still needs a home. The l'a-year-old female would make a loving pet. She is available for adoption at the animal shelter. With Easter just around the corner, so is the illegal peddling of baby chicks, ducks, geese and rabbits. The baby animals are cute and hard to resist, especially for children.

Unfortunately, too many parents don't consider the consequences of giving a child such a fragile present. Most children quickly lose interest in the baby animals, and they are dumped in local fields, lakes and ponds left to fend for them It is against Oklahoma City law to "sell, offer for sale, barter or give away bahy chickens or ducklings or rabbits as toys, premiums or novelties." Think twice before buying a bahy animal for a child. Animals of the stuffed variety are cute, cuddly and never need food, housing or veterinary care. Remember, animals are not toys. Henry Krause of Shawnee recently re-ceived the Gaines Award for Good Sportsmanship, given by the Cocker Spaniel Club of Central Oklahoma.

Krause has held offices in several dog clubs in the central Oklahoma area. He is one of the founders of the Cocker Spaniel Club. The sportsmanship medal is made available by the Gaines Dog Research Center to dog groups interested in honoring a club member for good sportsmanship.
