Hockey National Hockey League QUEBEC NORDIOUES Singed llonej Tennis Comer: of a six-year contract which pays $150,000 per season, according to published reports.

If he decides to demand a trade, it will be a rarity among players, said Braves general manager John Mullen. "For one thing, the player has no control over where he Is traded," Mullen said, explaining why the provision is seldom used. "For another, if he is traded, his present contract goes with him intact, so he doesn't off on a 10-game road trip Monday. "And I'd like to stay. But right now, it's 50-50 I'll leave." A clause in the contract between the players and major league baseball clubs allows a player with Alexander's seniority to demand a trade one season after being dealt to a new club.

Alexander, who came to Atlanta last year in a trade with Texas, did not say what it would take for him to lift his demand, adding "that's up to Al," meaning Al Thornwell, the Braves executive vice president. The Braves, he said, have made no effort to get him to change his mind. Thornwell said he has talked to Alexander's agent. "I told him there were two problems with what he was asking. One: We do not negotiate contracts in the middle of a season.

And two: We do not renegotiate contracts which have more than one year remaining," he said. "I told him we are very happy with Doyle, and we want him to be happy with us. But my answer is the same," Thornwell said. Alexander is in the fourth season der, the Atlanta Braves' winnlngest pitcher this year, says he wants his contract' renegotiated and his salary Increased "to the level of some other pitchers on the staff." Otherwise, he says, he'll demand a trade under the terms of a little-used contract provision. And Alexander, 12-6, is laying even money he won't be back in 1981.

"It'll be tough to leave (manager) Bobby Cox, as good as he's been to me," he said before the Braves took backs, and Ken Walter, offensive tackle.
