GROVE Top seed Sheila Luginbuel of Vinita advanced to the semifinal round of the Oklahoma Women's State Amateur Championship with a 6 and 5 win over Duncan's Sherri Atchison Wednesday afternoon. Luginbuel, the medalist after qualifying rounds, was even par after 13 holes in her quarterfinal match.

The sophomore-to-be at Oklahoma State will play Beth Brown of Sallisaw in today's semifinal round. Four-time champion Patty Coatney of Ponca City advanced with a 3 and 2 win over Oklahoma City's Nancy Little. This is Coatney's first appearance in the state amateur since regaining her amateur status. Her last trip to the state amateur was in 1981 when she won her third consecutive title at the Tulsa Country Club. State amateur veteran Dena No-wotny will not make it to her fifth final.

Nowotny miscounted strokes on the fourth hole, crediting opponent Beth Brown with a bogey six. Brown had recorded a par five. On the 18th hole, Nowotny conceded a two-foot putt, thinking the hole would send the match into sudden death. In reality, the hole gave Brown, a recently graduated high school senior from Sallisaw, a 1-up win. Nowotny lost in the state amateur final last year to former University of Oklahoma golfer Lee Ann Hammack, who is not back to defend her title.

Brown will play Oklahoma City's Deborah Mitchell, who earned a 2 and 1 win over Mary Lou Sharf of Tulsa.
