Ex-Hennessey Man at Large SALE ping charges pending against Stamper, and Graham said local FBI agent Gary Harmon came up with the idea of going to "America's Most Wanted" for help. FBI special agent Dan Vogel in Oklahoma City contacted producers with the program, and they decided "it would be a good one to put on the air," Graham said. Since Stamper's April 28, 1986 escape, the jail has been remodeled and complies with current security Forty-six years after serving in World War Marcy Moore of Beggs finally received the Bronze Star and 10 other medals. A retired ranch hand, Moore was aware he qualified for most of the medals, but it never crossed his mind he should apply or ask for them.

But in June, he re- a single jailer was in the building. Graham said Pena, wearing a ski mask, pointed an automatic pistol at the jailer's head and ordered her to release Stamper. The jailer was put in a cell with four convicts but was not harmed. Graham said she was rescued by Kingfisher police after officers failed to get a response from the jailer with their radios. Stamper and Pena allegedly went different ways after his escape, with Stamper promising to pay Pena the $10,000 at an Oklahoma City motel.

Stamper never showed up at the motel, and Pena returned to his home in Hollis, where he was arrested by Kingfisher County authorities. Pena was convicted for his role and since has served part of a five-year prison term, Graham said. The sheriffs office couldn't afford to pay for the kind of media exposure "America's Most Wanted" can give in seeking information on Stamper, Graham said. "Possibly someone out there could really help us out and get him back and get him put where he needs to be off the streets," Graham said. By Michael McNutt Enid Bureau KINGFISHER A former Hennessey man still at large after his escape from the Kingfisher County jail 3V2 years ago soon will be one Most Wanted." Producers with the nationally syndicated television show are scheduled to arrive here early next year to interview authorities on how Paul Eugene Stamper, how 35, escaped with the help of a gunman, Sheriff Danny Graham said Thursday.

Graham, a deputy sheriff when Stamper escaped, also will be flown to Washington, D.C., where the Fox Broadcasting Co. show is produced, to answer telephones the night the episode is televised. Actors will re-enact the escape on the show, whose producers boast a 35 percent capture rate of wanted criminals they profile. iCraham said no telecast date has been set. Producers with the FBI-sanctioned program indicated it will be aired sometime during the first three months of 1990.

leads have been obtained about Stamper since his escape. There were reports he was living in Enid, but now Graham said he believes Stamper is out of state. "We think he's underground," he said. "We've had different reports he could be in different areas of the country, but I think he's definitely alive and well." Graham said officers have received information that Stamper has ties with organized crime figures in Oklahoma and the area. "We always knew he was somewhat notorious but we didn't realize he had the connections to stay under this long," he said.

"Even the FBI was a little bit shocked that he was able to avoid any kind of contact with law enforcement this long." Stamper has been charged with at least 11 felonies. Prior to his escape, he was convicted of grand larceny, forgery, grand theft, possessing explosives and narcotics charges. He is wanted on charges of shooting with intent to kill, kidnapping, being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun and escape. The FBI also has federal kidnap All About Us At the time of his escape, Stamper was being held on charges of kidnapping his estranged wife and shooting her male companion. She escaped from Stamper two days later and notified authorities who arrested him in Kansas.

After his arrest, Stamper began plotting his escape with a jail trusty, Guadalupe Pena, Graham said. He said Stamper allegedly promised Pena $10,000 if he helped him escape. On the day Pena was released from jail, he returned to the jail and hid in an office area until only FRIDAY TELEVISION LISTING DECEMBER 22 iiplete Cable listings, See The Sunday Oklahoman" I' ite From WSlM Center of jazz is mixed with PJ the joyous sounds of the holidays on Classical Jazz Christmas with J9llSl Wynton Marsaiis on -lPIH Llve from Lincoln Center. 7 PM ceived a letter from the Army saying he would receive the medals within 200 days. 4, the medals arrived. Moore qualified for the medals after serving in North Africa when the Germans launched a tank attack. As a member of the 179th Infantry, Moore helped stop the attack and send the Germans into retreat. Moore isn't the only state veteran earning a medal. Former prisoner of war Doc Pewewardy of Lawton received a medal at a ceremony held by the Comanche Indian Veterans Association.

Pewewardy, 64, served in the 106th Infantry Division and took part in much of the drive through Europe through the latter half of 1944, and was captured and sent to a prison camp. His son, Cornell, wrote to the U.S. Defense Department asking the medal be awarded to his father. Couple Post Bond In Gun Incident At City Airport By Wayne Singleterry Staff Writer A couple arrested Wednesday and accused of trying to carry a loaded handgun onto an airliner at Will Rogers World Airport were arraigned in Oklahoma City federal court Thursday and released on bond. Clemens Edward Knaus, 46, and his wife, Lynn, 43, were charged with attempting to board an aircraft carrying a loaded firearm and aiding and abetting each other in that act, a misdemeanor.

If convicted, each faces up to a year in prison and a maximum $10,000 fine, Assistant U.S. Attorney Teresa Black said. U.S. Magistrate Ronald Howland set a preliminary hearing for Jan. 5.

He allowed Lynn Knaus to go free on a $10,000 unsecured bond pending trial. Clemens Knaus was ordered released on a $10,000 surety bond. The two live in Washington, D.C., and lease property they manage in Loveland, Colo. Authorities arrested the two Thursday evening after a baggage inspector using an X-ray machine spotted a Magnum pistol in the woman's purse. The man also had four bullets in his pants pocket, the FBI said.

In a affidavit, FBI agent Leslie Treece said she learned from questioning the baggage inspector that the woman seemed surprised the weapon was in her bag. "I told him not to put the gun there," inspector Kay Jenkins said Lynn Knaus told her. The two were preparing to board a plane for Chicago. Their ultimate destination was Washington, officials said. A bicycle is more than a toy; it is a vehicle, says the coalition's coordinator, Martha Collar. Every day, one child dies and another 1,000 are rushed to emergency rooms because of bike crashes. Head injuries are involved in 75 percent of all bike-related deaths. Collar says. Bikes and bike helmets should be a gift from parents, not a surprise from Santa, Collar suggests.

"It's essential that both the helmet and the bike fit properly. Take the child shopping with you to be sure of the fit." Many parents make the mistake of buying the child a bike that's too big. Collar said a bike that is too large or too small will be uncomfortable to ride and difficult for the child to control. The coalition is sponsored by Oklahoma Children's Hospital and is part of the National Safe Kids Campaign.
