Special is music on ice By Odessa Farquhar Eight in step with the season, NBC will present Peggy Fleming's third musioon-ice special, this one featuring champion skier Jean-Claude Killy, at p.m. Sunday. iUiss Fleming dances on ice, spearheads a. behind-the-scenes salute to, the Sun Valley ski resort and joins killy in a ski-skate ballet. The re are other guests as well: Best-selling rock-folk recording group, the Carpenters, comedian-Pete Barbutti and former Ice Follies stars Bill Thomas and Hugh Smith.

Produced entirely on location during the fall and winter months at Sun Valley, Idaho, the special is built around the two Olympic gold medal winners. The two perform slow moiion skiing and skating demonstrations and, as the Carpenters sing "We've Only Just Begun Killy teaches Peggy to ski. Naturally, she then helps him on the ice. They reminisce about their first meeting, during the 196S Winter Olympics at Grenoble. France.

It was there that Peggy earned America's only gold medal and Killy swept the ski competition. Then it's Killy demonstrating the style which won him gold medals in the downhill, slalom and giant slalom events. Her first daricing-on-skates number, to "Eleanor Rigby," is M-lowel by a brief look at the history of the resort, founded 34 years ago by the Union Pacific Kail-road. Included is a film clip from Sonja Henie's 1939 movie. 'Sun Valley Serenade' Barbutti delivers a comedy monologue in the Duchin Room, a Sun Valley supper club, and the Carpenters sing "Help" in the Boiler Room, a modern discotheque, Peggy skates on a pink, orange and yellow ice rink.

In the ski-skate ballet, Killy recreates on skis what Peggy does on skates. Peggy illustrates the attractions of Sun Valley in the summertime by starring in a summer show of the sort presented weekly at the resort. She skates to a rendition lot "Close to You" by the Carpenters, then joins Thomas and Smith In a dancing-on-skates production number. Peggy continues the practice of her two preceding specials with an educational segment, in she discusses and demonstrates several maneuvers which figure heavily in competition skating. In the finale, she dances on an outdoor rink at night to the 1 'Theme From Romeo and Juliet." KHly's performance trill be his first on a television variety mm 4 a mtvki.N.
