She finally was adopted by the Slotkin family and taken to New York City. Rene was placed in a Czecholsovakia orphanage, then taken in by a "Dr. Calina." Living in New York, Irene wondered how she would ever find Rene. It was the persistance of her adoptive parents and an article with her picture in Life magazine that finally brought the twins together.

Rene recalls, "Dr. Calina was the first gentleman that took me out of the orphanage. He, at the time, was living in Israel and he somehow recognized Irene as being my sister." "The Twin Film" chronicles the miracle of Rene and Irene's reunion. "We believe 'The Twin Film' will teach us all something about ourselves," said Jill Sigel-Greer. a barbed wire.

We just looked at one another. I never stopped looking for her, feeling that she was alive. Just recalling that moment gave me the strength, and I just knew that we would meet again somewhere, somehow." Recalling the day of liberation, Rene said, "I remember walking out of Auschwitz. I do remember trying to look back and around me to see if I could find Irene because I was leaving this place. I did see her, but we had to march on.

There was shooting all around us then we were surrounded by Russians dressed in white uniforms, that was the liberation." After the liberation, Irene was taken by a Polish couple, then to an By Kelly Schorr Mark Newman lived 31 years never knowing his identical twin, Jerry Levey, was 200 miles away. The twins were separated at birth and adopted into different families. Like his brother Jerry, Mark grew to love the outdoors; like Mark, Jerry studied forestry. As children, both wanted to be firefighters. This dream came true and brought the twins together.

Presumably, Mark and Jerry were never to have met. No doubt they would have remained apart if Mark's friend Jimmy Tedesco hadn't attended the same firefighter's convention with Jerry Levey. At first, Tedesco was confused. He knew Mark was not in attendance but he noticed that the man seated nearby strikingly resembled his friend. Tedesco decided to risk embarrassment and ask the man some questions.

Be it a coincidence or a timely twist of fate, Tedesco happened to be at the right place at the right time. As a result, the men now known as "the firemen twins" finally were reunited. The story of the "firemen twins" is captured in "The Twin Film," a documentary exploring what it is like to be a twin.
