LUBBOCK Nov 14 The names of Coach Chuck Moser and members of hia 1953 Abilene Eagle football team were metnodically chiseled into the history books here this brisk Saturday afternoon for doing something no Abilene team has been able to do since 1947 beat Lubbock And It was with comparative ease teat the alert Warblrds captured a 28-0 victory for a trio of firsts in their aeries against Westerner Coach Pat Pattison For one thing it waa the first Abilene win over Pattison and the second thing is that It waa only the second time that one of hia teams hero has been shut out on the scoreboard The other blanking came in 1948 at the hands of Austin High And it waa the first time they've been beaten here since the 1950 quarterfinals The victory kept the Eagles In the running for second place in District 1-AAAA and eliminated the defending state champs completely Abilene and Pampa are tied for the runner-up slot with 3-2 slates behind mighty Odessa Actually there was little outstanding about the victory the third loss handed the Westerners this year in the District race Hopelessly lacking in leadership and quarterbacking the Lubbock eleven isn't a good shadow of the illustrious teams that proceeded it to bring fame and fortune to this proud city The Warblrds shone both offensively and defensively throughout the game racking up a net gain of 334 yarda on the ground while holding Lubbock to only 117 yarda This waa one of the largest net gains to be given up by Lubbock this year and also one of their poorest days offensively Jimmy Millerman Hal McGloth-lin Ronnie McDearman and Wendell Phillips did foe ground gaining but did it behind a smooth blocking Abilene line that moved Lubbock almost at will Millerman was the game's top ground gainer with 122
