Horst St. Thomas Leroy D. Horst, 81, of 120-B Menno Village and formerly of 4793 Lincoln Way West, St. Thomas, died Thursday, May 15, 1997, in Menno Haven nursing home.

Born July 23, 1915, in Let- terkenny Township, he was a son', of the late Daniel K. and Mar- gretta Shields Horst. He was a member of Mercersburg Mennonite Church. A farmer, he was a former manager of E.L.M. Feeds, St.

Thomas. He formerly owned and operated Carlton Heights Mar- ket, St. Thomas. Mr. Horst was a life member of-St.

Thomas Township Volunteer Fire Company and its Fire Police. Surviving are his wife, Helen A. Cordell Horst; a daughter, Janet (Mrs. Benjamin) Martin of Mercersburg; a son, Leroy Jr. of Lansdale; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a sister, Ada Eshleman of Menno Haven; and two brothers, Harold of Altoona and Robert of Greencastle.

Two brothers preceded him in death. Service will be at 10 a.m. Mon- day in Mercersburg Mennonite Church. The Revs. Lloyd Gingrich, Mahlon Eshleman and Merle Cordell will officiate.

Burial will be in the church cemetery, Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 6492 Lincoln Way-West, St. Thomas. However, the family will receive friends from 6 to 9. Memorial contributions may be made to Cove Valley Christian Youth Camp, Little Cove Road, Mercersburg 17236.

Nora M.Wingert Chambersburg Nora M. Wingert, 88, of Menno Haven Nursing Home, died at 5:05 a.m. Friday, May 16, 1997, in the nursing home. Born Oct. 4, 1908, in Markes, Herbert Cordell Sr.

Waynesboro Herbert R. Cordell 79, of 4219 Altenwald Road, Waynesboro, died at 12:51 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 1997, in Chambersburg Hospital. He was in failing health for two years and in serious condition since the previous Thursday. Born Feb.

10, 1918, in Oakville, he was a son of the late Roy W. and Elsie Clever Cordell. He married Charlotte Smith on Sept. 29, 1941. Mr.

Cordell grew up on a farm at Fort Stouffer and later worked at Etter's Orchard. Before retiring in 1982, he worked at Landis Machine Waynesboro. He was a member of Marion United Methodist Church and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 842, where he held a fellowship degree and was a legion member. In addition to his wife, surviving are five sons, Roy John A. and Winston all of Chambersburg, H.

Russell of Lehighton and Paul L. of Greenville; five daughters, Elsie M. (Mrs. Glenn) Stoops, Fay D. (Mrs.

Gary) Adams, Dee A Barton and Kay A. (Mrs. Larry) Hite, all of Chambersburg, and Dottie J. (Mrs. Melvin) Helman of Hagerstown, 21 grandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren; three brothers, Clifford E.

of Hagerstown, Ross D. of Waynesboro and Donald R. of Greencastle; and three sisters, Anna M. (Mrs. Paul) Freet and Hulda G.

(Mrs. Winfred) Russell, both of Chambersburg, and Fay E. (Mrs. John) Hoke of Greencastle. A daughter, a brother and a granddaughter preceded him in death.

Service was Wednesday in Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home Inc. The Revs. Guy Camp III and Mervil R. Stambaugh officiated.

Burial was in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. A service also was conducted by Moose Lodge 842. Memorial contributions may be made to the intensive care unit of Chambersburg Hospital, 112 N. Seventh Chambersburg 17201. Fay M.

Reese, 28, of 222 W. Fourth Waynesboro, came to rest in a ditch at 2:52 a.m. Thursday at Midvale and Amsterdam roads. Reese and passengers Steve Karmendy 29, of 103 S. Church Apt.

4, Waynesboro, and Debra Weagley, 16, of 34 N. Franklin Waynesboro, left the scene, but were found 15 minutes later. Reese was charged with driving under the influence. Karmendy was charged with furnishing alcohol to minors. Arson: A wooden fence and back porch were damaged by fire at 1:20 a.m.

Friday at an apartment along Welty Road. Damage was estimated at $3,500. Chambersburg Accident: A Chevrolet driven by Charles D. Garner 78, of 860 Lincoln Way West No. 7, Chambersburg, collided with a Chevrolet driven by Alexandra Kalathas, 45, 1595 Bradbury Court, Chambersburg, at 10:58 a.m.

Friday at Loudon and South Franklin streets. Garner suffered a knee injury; Kalathas, lower back pain. Garner was traveling west on Loudon and Kalathas south on South Franklin when the accident happened. Theft: A 1996 Ford Explorer belonging to Monica L. Robertson, Sampache Drive, Shippens-burg, was stolen between 10 p.m.

Thursday and 10 a.m. Friday from the Giant parking lot off Wayne Avenue. State police, McConnellsburg Burglary: An unknown person or persons entered the home and garage of Terry Lee Mueller, 44, Warfordsburg, along Franklin Mills Road sometime between April 4 and May 11 and stole numerous tools valued at $400. Thomas Chambersburg Edward E. "Eddie" Thomas, 59, of 813 Strite Road, died unexpectedly Thursday evening. May 15, 1997, at home, after suffering a massive heart attack. Born Oct. 21, 1937, in Hager-stown, he was a son of the late John W.

Thomas and Hazel V. Thomas Binkley. For 36 years, he was a mechanic for Hicks Chevrolet-Buick-Volvo-Geo, Greencastle. He was a life member of Greencastle Sportsmen's Association Inc. and a social member of Harry D.

Zeigler Post 6319 Veterans of Foreign Wars and Frank L. Carbaugh Post 373 American Legion, both in Greencastle. Mr. Thomas was an avid hunter and archer. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn M.

Melius Thomas, whom he married on Sept. 17, 1960; a daughter, Vickie K. Toms of Chambersburg; a son, Leslie E. of Chambersburg; four grandchildren; two sisters, Cornelias Lindsay of Hagerstown and Betty L. Minnich of Greencastle; two brothers, John William and Robert both of Greencastle; nieces; and nephews.

His stepfather, George Binkley, preceded him in deatM. Service will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Harold M. Zimmerman Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle Greencastle.

The Rev. Peter Emig will officiate. Burial will be in Browns Mill Cemetery, Kauffman. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Greencastle Sportsmen's Association P.O. Box 632, Greencastle 17225. Anna V. Miller Waynesboro Anna V. Miller, 98, of Penn Hall retirement complex and formerly of 408 W.

Sixth Waynesboro, died at 9:50 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 1997, at home. Born Oct. 21, 1898, in Falling Waters, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Charles H. and Ozella M.

Sellers Freeze. Early in her life, she lived in Falling Waters. She was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waynesboro. On Oct. 15, 1916, she married Jacob Golden Miller.

They moved to Waynesboro in 1919 and to the Sixth Street residence in 1939. He died on Dec. 17, 1974. Mrs. Miller entered Michaux Manor, near South Mountain, on July 25, 1994, and moved to the Penn Hall complex on Nov.

28, 1995. Surviving is a son, Thomas G. of Waynesboro. A sister died on March 31, 1989. Service will be at 1:30 p.m.

Monday in Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad Waynesboro. The Rev. Richard Seaks will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

Shippensburg Lloyd H. Heller 89, of 9798 Molly Pitcher Highway, Shippensburg, died at 5:37 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 1997, in Chambersburg Hospital. Born July 16, 1907, in Shippensburg, he was a son of the late Marcus and Anna M. Coleman Heller.

He was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church, Shippensburg; Cumberland Valley Lodge 315, Free and Accepted Masons; and Shippensburg Town Band. Prior to retiring from Let-terkenny Army Depot, he worked at the former Peerless Furniture Shippensburg. A U.S. Army veteran, he served in World War II. M.

Roselene Heller, his wife, died on Dec. 15, 1978. Surviving are two sons, Lloyd H. Jr. of Shippensburg and Roger G.

of Falls Church, two daughters, Linda R. of Orrstown and Barbara A. (Mrs. John) Orban of Manahawkin, N.J.; four grandchildren; two stepgrand-children; nieces; and nephews. Nine brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

Service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home 112 W. King Shippensburg. The Rev. Jan Bye will officiate.

Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Sunday in the funeral home, where a Masonic service also will be conducted by Lodge 315 at 1 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the donors' favorite charities. Florence S.Ansel Harrisburg Florence S. Ansel of Harrisburg died Thursday, May 15, 1997, in Polyclinic Medical Center, Harrisburg.

i She was a daughter of the late Philip and Rose Rubin Stein. Mrs. Ansel was a member of Kesher Israel Congregation, Harrisburg, and its Sisterhood, Hadassah and AMIT. Retired, she had worked for the Board of Probation and Parole of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. She was past president of Yeshiva Academy of Harrisburg PTA.

Surviving are her husband, Irving Ansel; two daughters, Amy Goldman of Andover, and Robin Gross of Yardley; a son, Larry of Roslyn, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; a sister, Helen Brener of Chambersburg; nieces; and nephews. A brother preceded her in death. Service was Friday in Kesher Israel Cemetery Chapel, Harrisburg. Burial was in Kesher Israel Cemetery. Shiva is to be observed in Harrisburg.

Katherine E. Burns St. Thomas Katherine E. Burns, 70, of 9958 Circle Drive, St Thomas, died Thursday, May 15, 1997, at home. Born Feb.

27, 1927, in Waynesboro, she waa a daughter of the late Earl Sr. and Lena Smith Sheffler. She had worked at the former Stanley Co. Ray C. Burns, her husband, died Jan.

24, 1996. Surviving are five daughters: Sandra J. "Dolly" McGowan of Sarasota, Betty Schooley and Barbara Pietras, both of West Palm Beach, Edith A Rice of Fayetteville; and Linda Helman of Shippensburg; five sons, Gary L. Pogue of Clarksville, Leroy E. Pogue and Welby "Bill" Burns, both of Chambersburg; Guy L.

Orris of Greencastle; and Vera "Michael" Burns of Virginia Beach, 37 grandchildren, including Michelle Bigler, who helped care for her grandmother; numerous great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; two brothers, Charles Sheffler of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Ralph Sheffler of Fayetteville; and a sister, Frances Oberry of New Orleans. Service will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home 333 Falling Spring Road. The Rev.

Seventh Chambersburg 17201. Lillian M. Myers Mercersburg Lillian M. Myers, 82, of Manor-Care Health Services of Chambersburg and formerly of 133 N. Main Mercersburg, died at 2:45 p.m.

Thursday, May 15, 1997, in the nursing home. Bom April 2, 1915, in Mercersburg, she was a daughter of the late Harry W. and Emma S. Shaffer Starliper. She had worked for the former Mercersburg Dress Co.

After retiring, she was a cook in the cafeterias of the former Loewen-gart Tannery and at Clarence Armstrong Post 6241 Veterans of Foreign Wars post home, both in Mercersburg. Mrs. Myers was a member of the ladies auxiliary of VFW Post 6241. Surviving are two nephews, John "Danny" Starliper of Mercersburg and William "Randy" Starliper of Greencastle; two great-nephews; and two great-nieces. Service will be at 10 a.m.

Monday in Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Mercersburg. The Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate.

Mrs. Wingert had worked at the former silk mill in Chambersburg. In 1942, she retired as a clerk from the former Edgar R. Wingert, her husband, died on July 17, 1977. Surviving are two sisters, Dorothy V.

Keefer of Village Square at Menno Haven and Olive C. Souders of Menno Haven. A sister and a brother preceded her in death. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Lincoln Cemetery.
