Officers Are Elected Church Women At Union Corners Meet The final meeting of the year of the Women of the Church sation of St. John's Lutheran J-hurch at Union Corners was held in the church parlors with Mrs. W. E. Lucht, president, in charge.

Earl Hart. Reports were given by the department chairmen, all of wnora indicated increased activity" in the worfk of the W. M. F. of the American Lutheran Church.

Mrs. August Schnell gave a report on the thankoffering department which informed the women that the offerings had tripled in the last few years. These offerings are. for the larger projects of the W. M.

F. Plans for activities to the end of the year were also made. Christmas seals will be sold by both groups of the organization for the church tuberculosis sanatorium in Texas. Needy retired pastors will be remembered with Christmas gifts. Daughters of St.

John and the L. M. S. will observe the annual Christmas luncheon together the first Thursday afternoon in December with dinner being served at 12:30. A letter from the president of the Lake Erie Group, Mrs.

Herschel Nye, stated the "work shop" will be held in Norwalk at St. Peter's Church. This will be for all officers and department chairmen on Nov. 13, at 1:30 p. m.

A liberal sum was set aside for the purchase of new books for the organization's library, and it was decided to have three meetings in the year, the second Tuesday in January, June, and October. The committee on ingathering at the Harvest Home service of canned and produce reported liberal donations for the Home of Mercy in Williston. The women will also sponsor a clothing drive for Lutheran World Relief during Thanksgiving week. This clothing will be for the needy of Europe. Korea and East Jordan.

Huron-rn Fair Showsl REGISTERSTARNEWS 13 nUrOn-CO rair OllOWSj Thursday, October 16, 19S2 $4,500 Profit; Urge Passage Of Tax Levy NOR WALK, Oct. of this year's Huron-co Fair will be approximately $4,500 with a complete financial report to be made at the annual meeting of the Huron-co Agricultural Society on Nov. 15, it was announced today by Elfreda Crayton, board secretary. Mrs. Crayton staled that the fair board was pleased with this year's successful fair, which she attributed largely to ideal weather and record number of exhibits.

In the two previous years, she said, the profits were quite small. Pointing to the growing popularity of the county's fair, Crayton mentioned the need for passage of the half-mill levy for one year at the Nov. 4 elections. Proceeds will be utilized, to make repairs and improvements which are "absolutely necessary if the fair is to continue to grow and furnish comparable and even better programs in the future." Charles Meyer, extreme left, chairman of the industrial division of the Community Fund drive, is shown here receiving a check for $1,000 from the Wilson Plastic ployes Civic Fund. The fund is created by 25 cent weekly pay check contributions by the employes, matched by the management, and totaling $26 for each employe yearly.

The three Wilson employes to Meyer's left, are Ruth Kromer, C. W. Coffman and Ralph Funni, administrators of the fund selected by the employes. The plant presently has 48 employes. At the same time today, the Philco employes Bell fund of the Monroe-st plant contributed $900 and the Beacon fund of the Warren-st plant $150, a total of $1,050 from employes of the two plants.

The total contrasted with $803 last year, up 30 percent. G. J. Apel Lumber Co. contrib uted $290, up 50 percent from the S192 last year.

Today's to tal also included $140 from 11 ployes. Coldest Weather Of Season Spreads Into Midwest Areas 171 East Market Street By The Associated Press The coldest weather of the fall season hit wide areas in the west today. Snow fell in some sections of the sub-freezing belt. Another cool front extended over some eastern states. The weather bureau reported a live-inch snow fall at International Falls, on the Canadian border.

Light snow fell over the Northern Great Lakes region and in western North Dakota. It was a frosty 14 above at Bemidji, and 13 above at Grand Forks, N. today. The cold air headed southeast and eastward. It also was on the cool side from western New England and New York state southwestward to Texas.

Mass Chest X-Ray Survey In Huron-co To Start Monday NORWALK, Oct. Huron-co mass chest X-ray survey, sponsored by the county health department, Tuberculosis and Health Association, MQdical Society and Bellevue health department, will be held for five days beginning Monday. The X-rays, without charge, will be for all residents over high school age, with special arrange for all high school sopho mores and seniors. The program will be conducted through the portable unit owned" and operated by National X-ray Surveys, of New Jersey. Health authorities advocate an annual chest X-ray for the detection of tuberculosis and related chest ailments.

A communicable disease, tuberculosis is listed as seventh in the cause of death in the nation. Statistics show that it is most fatal to persons in the age category of 40 to 50. The mobile X-ray unit will be in Norwalk as follows: to 11 a. basement at Cole school for sopho mores and seniors from Norwalk High, St. and Monroeville floor court house, 1 to 4 p.

m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p. m. for public. house, 9 a.
