Alter got his professional start playing piano at the age of 13, in 1912, at the Colonial Theatre in his hometown, Haverhill, Mass. The owner of the Colonial was a gent who has done pretty well since then, too -Louis B. Mayer, headman of Metro-Gold wyn-Mayer. Today the song is considered a "standard" among musicians. It became one of the late President Roosevelt's two favorites the olher beinj "Home on the Range." Eleanor Roosevelt, accordingly, is having the original manuscript of "Twilight on the Trail" placed among the souvenirs of F.D.R.'s life in the Hytie Park Memorial Library. Kilocycling RCA has petitioned the FCC requesting that comparative color TV demonstrations, scheduled for the week of Nov. 14, be postponed two months, in order to iron out unforeen wrinkles No successor to the late Mark Warnow as conductor of "Hit Parade" has been selected as yet.
