The sun shone throughout the day as only a few wispy clouds dotted an otherwise clear blue sky making it a fine spring day to be outdoors. Temperatures began rising from a chilly 52 in the early morning past. the 60s after 9 a.m.

and into the 70s at 3 p.m. remaining in the low 70s until evening. Mild spring winds added a cool touch to the weather, and many area residents took advantage of the pleasant day to make preparations for the Memorial Day weekend. Outdoor grills were cleaned and prepared for cooking and area food stores were busy with shoppers stocking up on snacks and refreshments to carry them through the long weekend. Many people used the day to pack towels and bathing suits for a weekend trip to the shore.

Thursday's pleasant weather is expected to continue today and Saturday with mostly sunny skies and highs around 70. The chance of rain is near zero through tonight. Visitors to the New Jersey shore can expect mostly sunny weather there today with highs near 70 and partly sunny skies Saturday with highs in the low 70s. Tonight should be fair and cool.
