20, 1889, in Pike County, 111., and married Mary K. Bauer on Sept. 12, 1913. She preceded him in death. He was a retired heating engineer for Atlas Cement Hannibal, Mo.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. H. B. (Isabel) Morrison, New London, and Mrs. J.

C. (Dolores) Cowan, Galesburg; a brother, Roy of Baylis, a sister, Mrs. Albert Burden, St. Louis, four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services are pending at Clark Funeral Home, Hannibal, Mo.

DAVID W. MATHEWS NEW ULM, Minn. Funeral for David W. Mathews, 82, of New Ulm, formerly of Yates City, 111., who died Sept. 24, was Sept.

26 at the Gedstad- Hines Funeral Home, New Ulm. Burial was at New Ulm City Cemetery. He was born Feb. 23, 1891, at Yates City, where he married Harriet Ware on Feb. 23, 1922.

He lived in Yates City until 1945, when he moved to Ames, Iowa. He moved to New Ulm in 1970. He was a veteran of World War I. Surviving with his widow are a son, Richard, Stanwood, three daughters, Mrs. A.

J. (Harriet) Eckstein, New Ulm, Mrs. Richard (Kathrine) Buzby, Newfield, N. and Mrs. Wallace (Phyllis) Rothrock, Studio City, a brother, Bernard of Elmwood, a sister, Mrs.

at Oneida United Methodist Church. Born April 12, 1895, at Pleas' ant Hill, he came to Illi nois at age 16. He lived in Cam eron for 25 years, later moving to the Oneida area. He was a farmer all of his life. A mem ber of the Oneida United Meth odist Church and IOOF Lodge 786, he married Lulu Mills of Oaimeron on Dec.

27, 1922. Surviving are his widow; son, Robert E. West, Oneida; two daughters, Mrs. Max (Shirley) Johnson, Decatur, and Mrs Eugene (Mary Lou) Hixson, New Carrollton, a-brother, Roy West, Orrstown, sister, Mrs. Sarah Gepbart, Shippensburg, and five grandchildren.

HANSON Ralph L. Hanson, 57, of 8519 Crain Niles, formerly of Cameron, died Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge, He was born June 22, 1916, in' Warren County, and married Ruth Bergersen on June 7,. 1942, in Chicago. He was graduated from Monmouth High School in 1935 and attended Western Illinois University.

He was a veteran of World War II. Surviving are his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Ted (Diana) Solinko, Superior, and Mrs. Kenneth (Linda) Goodman, Eureka; a son, Robert, at home; his mother, Mrs. Clara Hanson, Monmouth, and three sisters, Mrs.

Dean (Nell Marie) Ole, Monmouth, Mrs. Marshall (Helen) Fields, Knoxville, and Mrs. Dale (Pearl) Clay, Gales' burg. Funeral services are pending at the Drake and Son Chapel, Park Ridge. MRS.

LILLIE CALLOW ROSEVILLE Mrs. Lillie Callow, 83, of Roseville, died Tuesday morning at her home. She was born Jan. 1, 1890, at Fremont, and married James Callow on May 13, 1912, at Monmouth. He died May.3, 1971.

ALICE H. STEPHENS CANTON Mrs. Alice H. Stephens, 94, Canton, died today at 12:55 p.m. at the Canton Nursing Center.

She was born April 2, 1879, at Aurora. She married Samuel E. Stephens on Jan. 3, 1912. He preceded her in death.

They moved to Bushnell in 1922, and he operated Stephens Drugstore until his death. A member of the German Lutheran Church, Aurora, she moved to Canton in 1945. Surviving are three daughters, Lucile Effland, London Mills, and Mrs. Verdell George and Mrs. Dorothy Neuschwanger, both of Canton, six grandchildren and.

Kissinger Will Vist Peking WASHINGTON (UPI) Secretary of State Henry A. Kissinger will visit Peking Oct. 26-29 as part of a continuing dialogue between the United States and mainland China, President Nixon announced today. Kissinger also will stop in Japan on the trip, Nixon told neiwsmien. The'President said he would be going to Japan as Tokyo had said, but said a specific date had' not yet beien decided.

Agnes Mack. Pub Owner's Dog Lives on Roof OLDHAM, England (UPI) Sandy the mongrel dog lives on the roof of his owner's pub and apparently likes it. "Soon after we moved into the pub 13 months ago Sandy jumped off the fire escape onto the has stayed there ever since," said Gerry Rat- oliff, the pub landlord. Because a three-fourths majority of the council was not present, no action was taken on a lease of city-owned property at the former ball park for a restaurant parking area. Discussion centered around straightening a property line and incorporating three measures in the lease: installation of a fence along the south border by July 1, 1974, prohibition of new buildings on lease property and payment of taxes for the 19-year period of the lease. The parking area will be used for the new restaurant, to be erected by Mr. and Mrs.

He referred to a recent incident where John Simmons, water superintendent, was accosted by an irate resident who had had his water turned off for nonpayment. Three area youths were charged Thursday night by Henry County Sheriff's officers after they were stopped east of Galva.

Thomas A. Nelson, 20, of Galva, Floyd Stotler, 20, Altona, and Alan E. Hand, 17, Princeton, were arrested. Nelson is charged with possession of a controlled substance and illegal transportation and possession of alcoholic liquor. Stotler and Hand were charged with illegal transportation and possession of alcoholic liquor.

Donald D. Crane, 18, Galva, was placed on one year's probation and fined $100 after pleading guilty to a charge of theft in Henry County Circuit Court. The youth was charged with the taking of a mini-bike from Wesley Larson Jr. He was also ordered to make restitution of damages. Mr.

and Mrs. Meade Robinson, Galva, have completed arrangements for the purchase of Firaker's Grove, a restaurant- bar at LaFayette. They expect to take over the new operation soon. Purchase was made from Lowell Twidwell, Galesburg. Mrs.

Robinson, who has operated Parkside Salon on Frank Street, expects to sell that business. Robinson is employed at Roach-Appleton Galva. Mrs. Signa Winter will move this week to Lincoln House after selling her home on Southeast Second St. to Larry and Hollis Morse.

Walter Iippmann Condition Critical After Stroke NEW YORK (UPI) WMer Iippmann, 84, whose syndicated column "Today and Tomorrow" appeared in 250 newspapers, was in critical condition today at New York Hospital, suffering from a stroke. Iippmann, a and author who twice won the Prize, suffered a seizure Tuesday ait the Hotel Lowell in New York where he lives. Engineers Report Cargo for Week A total of 580,300 tons of cargo passed through Lock 15 at Rock Island last week, according to the Rock Island District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Northbound cargo totaled 221,150 tons including 144,300 tons of coal, 46,500 tons of petroleum products, and 30,350 tons of miscellaneous freight.

Troops that choose their activities carefully may qualify for a new National President's Boypower Unit Award, according to W. H. Harper, president of the Prairie Council. The award is given to units for their activities and advancements during a year of eligibility. Under the new program, outstanding units wiU be awarded a red, white and blue streamer lettered in gold for the unit, and a special strip for each scout's uniform.

FHA Loans Are Extended WASHINGTON (UPI) President Nixon today signed a bill extending the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) home loan guarantee program for one more year. Tne bill, giving authority to the secretary of Housing and Urban Development to insure loans and mortgages, extends the program to Oct. 1, 1974. Congress approved the bill Monday, just hours before the program would have expired.
