Wanda was gorgeously dressed in a white slipper satin gown, designed by Edilh Head.

It had draped sleeves and a bodice fastened with pearl buttons. She wore a Juliet cap topped by a veil of rose point lace which she got in Italy recently, and carried a corsage of white orchids. Only the close friends of the couple were invited to the wedding. They moved directly into an apartment, decorated and fur-nished by Audie while Wanda waa in Europe. Both are in New York, and it is undecided as yet whether they will tie the knot there, in Miami, where he has a personal appearance run shortly, or on his return to Hollywood. Early Bird.

Charlie Bickford, an actor who can act and one who also has his shekels, was the first to get in touch wih Ernest Hemingway by cable in the south of France for his life story after the latter's provocative feature in a recent Life. Mr. B. wants to produce it as well as do the role. Micheline Presle measured right up to all the prewar standards for a newly arrived French star when she got here with 25 count 'em 25 trunks of clothes.

Right behind her chic high heels came the news that she has just copped three awards in Europe, one of which was her nomination 1sy the London Daily News for "the most memorable performance." The picture will giveus a chance to see why 20thCentury-Fox induced Micheline Presle to leave Paris and journey across the ocean and the continent to Hollywood, for Micheline plays the leading feminine role in the new French film, and it was her enactment oi "Martha" that won her the contract with Darryl Zanuck. Micheline was born in Paris in 1922 and has been hailed in Paris as "France's most'promising young actress." Gerard Philipe, who plays opposite Micheline, had a long apprenticeship on the stage before being cast in the screen version of Dos toievsky's "The Idiot." Since then, Gerard has appeared in a number of French films, although few of them have been shown over here. When I come to review this French film, I'm afraid I'll feel Mr.

Studios-Lack Facilities.

In my experience of reviewing films over a period of years, it has impressed me that, again with the exception of the British, foreign studios are not equipped with the facilities for smooth picture making that distinguishes Hollywood, and that there are more showmen in our cinema capital than in any other production center in the world. The only two foreign-language pictures that rated much attention fast year were, in my estimation, "Monsieur Vincent" and "Sym-phonie Pastorale," both made in France. "Paisan," -the Italian picture that won the New York film criucs award as the best foreign-language film, is made up of a series of episodes of scenes from the last war, some of them appear so faked as to be ridiculous. Film Stirs Controversy. The Paris Theatre, which hemsed Pastorale" for its long run, is about to present a raw French film that has stirred up quite a controversy, here as well as abroad.

It will be known over here as "Devil in. the Flesh," but was presented in France as "Le Diable au Corps." There was some question about permitting it into the country. The film is based on an autobiographical novel by Raymond Radi-guet, a young genius who died at the age of 20, leaving behind a number of remarkable literary documents, not the least remarkable of which as his autobiography.
