(Photo by Jim Cox) Abigail Van Buren His Ego Is Showing! DEAR ABBY: What do you think of a husband who tolls his wife thai he KNOWS he could win any woman in the world if he were given an introduction to her? This man is not rich. He is definitely nothing to look at. And unless he is in a very good mood, he is lousy company.

So please tell me where he gets ideas like this. HAD IT DEAR HAD IT: I've heard ofself-confi- dcnce, but his is ridiculous! But, in case your husband has a secret weapon, you'd better be careful to whom you introduce him. DEAR ABBY: My mother keeps "lending" me out to the neighbors to baby-sit for nothing. Very often I have to change my plan at the last minute because my mother lolls me she promised someone in the neighborhood that I would sit for them. Other girls rny age get paid for sitting for these same people, so now they are mad at me for sitting for nothing, because they look greedy when' they take the money.

My mother is the kindest soul in the world, Abby, but do you think it is fair that she should offer my services to the neighbor for nothing? SWEET AND SOUR SIXTEEN DEAR SIXTEEN: Bless your mother's heart. Slie means well, but she isn't being fair to you. She shouldn't promise your services without having first checked with you. And she shouldn't expect you to sit for nothing. DEAR ABBY: Why do men have to wear DARNED socks? Do you know any women these days who would wear a darned stocking? Men's socks don't cost any more than women's, so wiien a woman finds a wee hole in her husband's sock! does she try to "save" it? Let her throw it in the rag bag along with her own.

LOVING WIFE DEAR LOVING: Just keep crusading for equal rights for men and you'll soon write a DEAR ABBY letter with a husband problem. Come to think of it, I haven't seen a darning egg since the depression. What's on your mind? For a personal reply, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Abby, Box 3365, Beverly Hills, Calif. Hate to write letters? Send one dollar to ABBY, Box 3365, Beverly Hills, for ABBY's new booklet, "HOW TO WRITE LETTERS FOR ALL OCCASIONS." Few of the oils by the Kokomo High School senior have been in class, however. He just, as he puts it, likes to work with his hands, "keep at anything aligned to art, and his paintings show a finished touch far in advance of his years and year's study. His mother, Mrs. Jawes 0. Young, calls his switches of style typically Mike.

"You never can tell about Mike," she says, "He's apt to go in any direction." From the paintings much, in evidence at their home, some of which will be in the exhibit, that's obvious. There's a realistic bowl-spilling fruit table still, a landscape copied from a Swiss postcard; a snowscape, several Van Gogh-like stills of flowers in vases, a cubistic in vibrant tones, one that Mike says is a "pessimism" in paler hues that looks something like a jigsaw puzzle and a portrait of a young girl seen in profile. It looks as though it had scrathed on with a a knife, and it was. "Everybody thinks that's terrible," Mike says frankly. "But it isn't supposed to be pretty, it's impressionism." "It's kind of started Dana, his 13-year-old sister.

"Oddball," finished i with a grin. His parents are somewhat puzzled as to where his talent comes from, since no one in the family has been an artist and quite willing to let him continue. In fact, his father is going quite a bit further than just tacit approval, spending most of his spare time making frames for Mike's exhibit pictures in the workroom of their home at 2708 Southway Blvd. E. At any rate, Mike's teacher; Bertha Duke of Indianapolis, thinks he's ready for his first show.
