The Friendship Fire Company of Chambersburg, with the silver ornet Dana, ot mat piaco, will arrive in Iiar risburg by the early train to morrow morning, to participate in the inauguration of General Geary. The Friendship will muster about fifty men.

They will be tho guests of the Friendship Fire Company in this city. One hundred and fifty Jioys in Blue are coming from Altoona, and delegations are expected from many other places. Before the Mayor. Henry Dipper, vagrant, was yesterday committed for forty eight hours, at his own request ns he had no place to go, and it would have been cruel to start him on a tramp through the snow. William Small, drunk, fined and discharged.

John Boyle (late of this city), who was tried at York, for the murder of George Squibb, lias been acquitted. There are still two other Indictments against him one for the murder of Mrs. Squibb the other for the grand child. These indictments, unless abandonod sooner, will be disposed of at the April court. McGrnnnigan and Boyle's son, both of whom wero tried for the same oflonse, were ncquittod without much ceremony, there having been no evidence against them which would have justified a conviction.

J. Jones. We have the painful duty of announcing to day that A. J. Jones died, yesterday forenoon, at his residence, on Front street.

Mr. J. had been confined to his bed (or several weeks past, and at times there seemed to be hope or his recovery, but death had marked him for its victim, and finally consummated its design. Mr. Jones was ono of our most prominent citizens, a leading business man, and highly respected by all who knew him.

He was lostmaster of this city, under the adrainistra ion of Taylor and fcillmoro, and held other positions of honor and trust, in all of which lie discharged the duties devolving upon him with fidelity. Tho doath of Mr. J. will be deeply lamented, not only by a circle of relatives, but by a host of personal friends who were intimately associated with him either in business or social rotations. Tub illustrated lectures of John Smith Dye promise to bo the rarest entertainments ever given in this city.

Tho first, on Wednesday evening, will consist of an account of tho origin of tho human race, showing the early conceptions and plans of the Creator in relation to man, and the causes 'of tho different colors of people. Lottio Brown, tho young slave girl who ministered to our starving soldiers in the rebel pons at. Wilmington, will be introduced, and sing "Who Will Care for Mother Now?" and "Father Come Home." Mr. Ira D' Cliff, the colored baritone, will Bin "The Heart Bowed Down." and lier Kissed Me jn My Dreams." Dye has spent twenty years of his life in foreign lands for the purpose of investigating this important subject, and has condensed the fruits of his study and researches into an address requiring less than two hours for its delivery, lie treads in the paths marked ont in tho seventeenth century by Sir William Jones, and seizes upon every ancient inscription and obscure tradition, analyzing them and abstracting from their hidden recesses everything hich can throw light upon his theme. We would remind our readers that th CJiti zen boys hold their hoD in Brant's Hall to morrow night. The sale of tickets has been extensive, and there is every reason to believe that there will be a very large attendance of citiens and strangers. The Big Threes will have a good time. From Philadelphia. The Gray Reserves leave Philadelphia at eleven o'clock to nighf, for There will be about three hundred men in the five companies.

The National Guards, numbering about one hundred men, will leave Philadelphia at the same hour. Company Republican Invincibles, will arrive here from Philadelphia, on the evening train on the Reading railroad. The Boys in Blue of the Twentieth Ward, will arrive here at three o'clock to morrow morning, via tho Pennsylvania railroad. We have been informed that the Washington Hose Company, No. 4, have been making extensive preparations for the inauguration of Moi.

Gen. John W. Geary, on to morrow. Ihey have procured new equipments for the occasion, and expect to turn out fifty or sixty men. We hope that our City Fathers will remember the "Washey Boys," No.

Roff appeared before the Mayor, and stated that on the previous evening as her husband was returning homo he met a negro going out of a gateway on the premises occupied by him, near the Lancasterian House. The case was put in the hands of Barney Campbell, who succeeded in arresting a young negro named John Chilton, at a house in North alloy, below Spruce strcot. Ho was identified as the in. dividual who had visited Roff's, whore h.c stole a quantity of rags from Mr. storj.

Wm. B. Chilton, a brother of John, was aj bo captured, but subsequently released. At the house where the Chiltons wcro arrested, a quantity of ropes, evidently the property of a boatman, were found, cut in pieces. John was committed to prison, by the Mayor, to answer at court.

The Citizen boys of this city, and the Keystone Drum Corps, met the visitors at the depot, and a procession being fi the entire party marched to the Lochiel hotel, where quarters had been secured for the strangers. A telegraph operator, namod A. A. Braidwood, had a final hearing before. Mayor Edwards this morning, on a charge of attempting to blackmail. The information was made uy Jiarney Campbell, Cfaief of Police.

On Saturday morning Braidwood invited Campbell into the restaurant under tho State Capitol Hotel, and there represented himself as a detective in the revenue department of the Government. He requested Mr. C. to assist him in a case in which one of our prominent business men was charged with violating the revenue laws, and stated that $150,000 could bo made, of which Campbell should have $33,000. Barney was to koep an eye on the matter while Braidwood would go to Washington to report At the hearing, Mr.

H. G. Pulling, one of the proprietors of the State Capitol Hotel restaurant, testified that early on Saturday morning Braidwood visited his (witness') room in the hotel, awaking him, and stating that information had been made before the Mayor, charging Pulling with having permitted some unlawTul deeds to be committed in the restaurant. He proposed to have the 2S? fJM Pulling would give him lhis Pulling refused to do. and determined to have an investigation of the matter at once.

Subsequently he leavned that no charges, whatever, had been preferred against Braidwood has been in this city since the 1st of September last, when he left Philadelphia. He does not bear a very enviable reputation. 1 In default of $1,000 bail, he was committed to prison, to answer at court, next week. A salute will be fired from capitol hill during the moving of the procession. Prayer will be offered by the Rev. T.

Robinson. Immediately after the Inaugural ceremo nies a national salute will be fired from capi tolhill. The procession on return route will march down Third to Locust, out Locust to Second, down Second to Market, when all but the military organizations will be dismissed. The milit ary will march out Market and halt, right resting on Fourth street. A grand review of all the military will take place by Governor John W.

Geary. After which the parade will be dismissed. Under no circumstances will persons be admitted to the stand without special cards of Col. Peter Lyle, on reaching the capitol, will detail one' company to guard the platform. Col.

C. M. Prevost will detach one com pany as a Guard of Honor to the Governor and Governor elect. Marshals will be held responsible for having their Divisions in line precisely at 11 o'clock. JAMES N.

The Citi zen Fire Company has invited the Good Will 'boys" of Philadelphia to a collation at Brant's Hotel restaurant, at 8 o'clock this evening. We learn that the Hope Company will en tertain the visitors in a similar manner at 9 o'clock this evening. Caning the Frequenters of the State Capitol.

Lee has just opened a stand for the sale of gold and silver headed canes, and all other kinds of walking sucks, in the rotunda of the Capitol. Lee is an experienced caner of the public, and we advise all who want anything in his line for their own use, or as presents fortheir friends, to pay the new stand a visit. The Skatorial Queen was at the pond this afternoon, and attracted a large crowd of visitors. J. his iorenoon, the Keystone Drum Corps paraded the streets, with banners, bear ing appropriate inscriptions, and the excellent music nad the effect of causing hundreds to turn out and go to the pond.

There will be an illumination at the pond during the whole, of to night, and a gay time may be expected. me snow has been removed, and the ice is in tip top order. The Pittsburg papers predict a suspension of the iron business in that city in a month. BUSINESS ITEMS. Soldiers' Monument Association.

A meeting of the Soldiers' Monument Association will be held at the State Capitol Hotel, on Wednesday evening at 7 o'clock. All the members of the association are requested to be punctual in attendance, as business of importance will be transacted. E. C. WILLIAMS, President.

The lady's summons at the door for entrance was quickly attended to, when she at once conducted the salesman into the Doctor's presence and introduced him, the Doctor being under tho impression that the gcntlemau was the lady's husband, and equally impressed was the salesman that the Doctor was his fair customer's husband. We abruptly drop tho story for the present, to announce the arrival of twenty pieces 30 inch heavy unbleached muslins at 12 cts. per yard. C.
