Twenty one men from Maryland members of the 113th regiment of infantry, formally, made protest as "conscientious objectors" against serving in the United States army. Nineteen refused to put on uniforms. Most of them were They are today in the detention camp with 24 other Mennonites from Pennsylvania. Two of the 21 said they were willing to do service in non combatant, work and re turned to their companies. The status of these men is yet to be determined by the War Depart ment Meantime the objectors in the detention camp are carrying on Bible and prayer meetings.

Total sales, par value, aggregated $3,735,000. U. S. bonds old issues were un changed on call, the coupon 4's de dining 5 8 per cent, on sales. GERMAN FLIES WITH WREATH FOR BROTHER BEHIND THE BRITISH LINES IN FRANCE, Oct.

S. A German airplane was brought down in the British lines this week after a bat tie lasting nearly an hour. The next morning a German machine came hovering over the same spot and manoeuvered for a position. It was promptly attacked, but returned to the German lines after dropping overboard something which was seen to fall near an evacuated village. Two British soldiers, who were sent to find out what had been dropped, returned with a beautiful wreath nearly three feet in, diameter.

To the wreath was attached a note asking the British airmen to place. it on. the grave of the dead pilot. "The officer you have buried was my brother," said the note, "I spent six happy years working In a London bank. I know you honor the dead.

Please do this little service for me." The wreath was deposited as requested on the grave of the dead German airman. AUTO KILLS DRAFTEE SHENANDOAH, Oct. 8 Tohn Parrott, 23 years old, a draftee, of Buff Mine Run, who expected to leave for Camp Meade this week, and Peter Burnesky, 8 years old, of this city, both were run over by, automo biles on Saturday night and died from their injuries.
