Sympathy is extended to the family of Fred E. J. Steging of Road, who had been a "Bensenville resident for many of his 86 years. Diane, Jimmie and Johnnie, children of Mrs. Audrey Cooper, have returned after visiting their- grandparents, the Herald La Cues in Winchester, for the past month.

When the Joseph Kratochvils' daughter, Bernadette, became a teenager last week, her friend, Cathy Pocius, hosted a surprise party in her honor. Eight friends attended the luau on Wednesday evening and topped off a hot night by dunking Bernadette in 'the pool, clothes and all. ROBERT YATES have returned from two weeks of visiting in Pans, Tenn and Harrisburg, 111., where Mr. Yates' father has been in the hospital. Good wishes go to the Stig Dahlstroms' son, Ricky, who is recovering from an accident last in Franklin Park, He came out second best in traffic, but has no serious injury.

Mrs. Roy Lange visited her 1 daughter and family, the Don Unkes of Arlington, last week. The Charles Kratochvils had their daughter, Lillian, Mrs. Joan Duffy and four children from Silver Spring, as houseguests last week. One day they went to New Berlin, 111., to visit the junior Charles Krat- ochvils and had quite a family 1 reunion with 20 grandchildren present.

When they returned, they were visited by another daughter, Theresa, Mr. and Mrs. James Johnson and two daughters, who were on their way to Reno to live. THE VERN JOHNSONS and children, Julie, John, Jim and Jay, have returned from a 2- week camping trip which took in many places of interest including Washington, D.C., Phil- adelphia, Williamsburg, and New York City and the Fair. The Bernt Dahlstroms were one of the three sons of Arvid Dahlstroms of Eau Gallic, who hosted a golden anniversary party on Friday night at Niel- sens for their parents.

Nearly 140 friends and relatives were there for dinner and dancing, The Senior Dahlstroms left Tuesday for Iron Mountain, after being honored guests at a family dinner hosted by the Berndt Dahlstroms on Sunday. The John Thomases hosted a family dinner party on Monday evening honoring their daughter, Judy, on her birthday. Guests included the Bruce Fretz- es of Deer Island, William Bachals of Franklin Park, Mrs. T. Bottoms and son of Melrose Park and the Cooks of Elk Grove.

The Robert J. Kerches with daughter, Diane, and son, Bobby, left O'Hare by jet on Sunday for their home at Kiaula in the Hawaiian Islands after visiting his parents, the Robert L. Kerches for the past month. MR. AND MRS.

Robert L. Kerch and daughter, Grace Davis, spent the weekend at Wild Hose, visiting their daughter and family, the A. Buttles. Former co-workers at the post office hosted a dinner on Wednesday honoring the former Eleanore Cook and her husband, Bruce Fretz, before they left for their new home at Deer Island, Ore. The William Martin family had quite a busy weekend with Mrs.

Martin's family reunion in DeWitt, Iowa, Saturday at which eight families--all the brothers and sisters but one--present. Sunday they returned through White Pines State Park where there was a Martin family reunion taking place. The Elmo Blacks, Mrs. Martin's sister, will be her houseguest here until returning to her California home later in the week. Sister Mary Alban OSS from the College of St.

Francis in Jol- iet, spent this week visiting her sister, Mrs. Frank Leider, and on Aug. 13 is leaving for her mission at Mt. Vernon, 111., for the school year. Sunday, the Leiders hosted a buffet supper and reception honoring Sister Alban, foi 70 friends and relatives in their lighted rock garden.

THE BURTON Fairchild family visited Lenore's parents in Elkhorn, recently. Carole, George and Billy and George's friend, Jackie Williams, enjoyed swimming, water-skiing a horseback riding while there. The Charle.s Kriegers a their children, David, Hichard, Barbara and Linda, recently returned from a 2-week vacation. The first week they traveled to Caster State Park, where they spent a week at the a Lodge. En route they stopped at the Badlands, Black Hills and Mount Rushmore.

Their second week was spent visiting Charles' parents, the Frank Kriegers of Marcellus, Mich. The Robert Applebys have as their houseguost Mrs. Appleby's mother, Mrs. R. C.

Mallory of St. Louis, for a 3-week visit. The Harold Ostrands and their children, Karun, Mark and Connie, spent the weekend camping at Timber Lake near Antioch, where they met with members of a camping club. The cool weekend allowed swimming only on Saturday, but the toasting marshmallows and i i around the campfire made an especially interesting weekend. Mark came home with some frogs he caught up at Timber Lake so we could say "things are really jumping" at the Ostrand house.

JOYCE LILLIG was hostess to a group of 30 ladies at a luncheon and splash party last Wednesday. The women from Bensenville, Elmhurst a Berkely are members of Children's Research Foundation and dp charitable work for the organization. Birthday greetings are being White Pines News Mrs. Nina Newcomb, mother- in-law of Mrs. Harley Newcomb of Fischec 1 Drive, recently came home following a week in Elmhurst Hospital.

The Fred Kauffmans of Ridgewood Avenue, spent July 24 to Aug. 3 in New York, visiting the World's Fair. They also toured the U.N. Building and took a ferry boat to Staten Island. The Howard Ericksons on Briar Lane recently spent four days in a resort, complete with pool, in the Wisconsin Dells.

1 Hiking, boating and swimming i 'were-on their agenda. The Les Langes and daugh- ters, Debbie, Dawn and Cindy of Crest Avenue, spent from July 23 to Aug. 4 in Colorado Springs -visiting Mrs. Lange's sister and family, the George Kammerers. While there, the also visited Estes and Greeley Parks, and the Air Force Academy where they attended chapel services.

Mrs. Kenneth Pobloshe of Fischer Drive held a surprise bridal shower attended by 20 guests, honoring Elaine Runge Friday night, Elaine is to be married Sept. 5 to the Pob- loshes' nephew. THE A. G.

Shapparos and daughter Linda on Ridgewood Avenue, spent a week visiting Mrs. Shapparo's parents, the Ami! Rehms and other relatives in Perry, Ark. Lynn, 5-year-old son of the Harley Newcombes of Fischer Drive, returned recently from a i. month spent at Travelaire Day Camp in Bensenville. Swimming was the most outstanding activity for which Lynn received his minnow badge.

Mrs. Albert Walker on Church Road, returned home last Monday from Northwest Hospital in Chicago, where she underwent major surgery. The William Dankses of Ridge- 1 wood Avenue, recently motored to Twin Lakes, Mich, where their daughter, Gail, is staying 5 at the camp for councilor training. Then the family motor 'ed to Brown County State Park in Brown County, a fav- orite place for horseback riding and to Owensboro, Ky. to celebrate Robert's birthday at the Gabes Restaurant, a visit with 'Mrs.

Dranks' father, H. B. Danks in Centertown, Ky. and a ferry boat ride across the Ohio River 1 in Canneltown, were also included in the family plans. THE WILLIAM Brumley fam- i of White Pine Road, spent last weekend camping at White 'Pines State Park in Oregon, 111.

A trip was also made the next. day to the Mississippi Palisades State Park in Savanna, where family participated in horse. back riding and swimming. The Les Langes and daughters, Debbie, Dawn and Cindy, recently motored to Brookfield, where Debbie was a bridesmaid for Mrs. Lane's niece, Nancy Frosch, who was married to Wayne Butler of Stamford, Conn. Jack Werner of Forest View entertained business associates at dinner at the French Market, and the Bears All-Star Football Game Friday. Lynne, daughter of the Paul Salces of Woodland Avenue, entertained 15 neighbor friends Aug. 6 for her fourth birthday party.

Charles Gardner of Woodland Avenue, and his 6-year-old son, Gary, with five men and seven boys, all members of the Tioga Indian Guides, camped and cooked out-of-doors near the Wisconsin Dells over the weekend. Roy Wold of Pine Grove and son, David, also were on the trip. The tribe fished, hiked and swam JEANNIE, daughter of the James Elgs of Woodland encountered a mishap while playing Aug. 3. She fell and had to have four stitches taken in her head.

Although the wound is reported healing well, Jean- me is unhappy because she has had to cancel her swimming lessons. The Warren Lauridsens of Briar Lane and their three children, Cindy, Ken and Jim, have just returned from a 2Vz- week tour of the West in a rented 16-foot trailer. They were impressed by the scenery through the Black Hills, Yellowstone National Park, the Grand Tetons, Colorado Springs and Pikes Peak. The family also viewed the Passion Play in the Black Hills. Mary Ellen Reedy on the recent death of her father. Heidi, daughter of the Herbert Schumanns of Fischer Drive returned home recently from East Bay Camp in Bloomington, 111. Heidi was among nine children from her church who attended. Andrea, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

Piero Squillo of Ridgewood Avenue, hosted 15 teenagers at an open house record hop party Saturday, Aug. 8. THE JOHN Greens of Pine Grove entertained the John McDowells and son from Northbrook at a steak barbecue in their back yard Sunday. Mrs. Charles Gardner of Woodland Avenue, accompanied her son, Chuck, to Little League potluck picnic at Salt Creek in Addison, Saturday.

The Indians, Chuck's team, were celebrating their first place lead in the Bensenville Intermediate team. Charleen, daughter of the Charles Cecthis of Pine Grove Avenue, was surp. when Kathy Murphy o' Bensenville and Marilyn Gourley had a sur prise birthday party on her 15th birthday July 18, at the Murphy home. Forty were present, and each had a gift for Chai leen. Dancing, ant refreshments were enjoyed.

Susi and her husband, Ion, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Norbert Sweeney who reated them to dinner at the Little Bit of Sweden Restaurant aturday. Dolores Heinrich took hildren, John, Valerie a cott, on a holiday to the Wis- onsin Dells. They took the boat trip through the upper and ower Dells and a ride on the Jucks, an amphibious boat.

The Henry Bronars family were present at the baptism of Patricia Ann Vercillo in St. Pascal Church Sunday, where Delores Bronars and Ron Krist were godparents. A dinner party was held at the Vercillo home with the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James Mangan, present.

The Ed Clausers had Helen's Brother and family as house- guests recently. They are Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Kueker and their three children from Shreveport, La. Randy Landeck, son of the Earl Landecks, spent 10 days visiting his grandparents, the Willard Landmeiers, at their summer home on the Wisconsin River.

His parents and four brothers drove to Wisconsin to pick him up on Saturday. MR. AND MRS. Walter Boeck of Algonquin Road, attended the wedding of Mrs. Boeck's niece, Miss Elaine Grasen, and Dave Krol on Saturday.

Arsen Allamian; uncles, Abe Bedrosian and Joseph Tungrian; and Mr. Tungrian's guest, whom he hadn't seen in 45 years, Jack Mardigian of Albany, N. Y. Mrs. Walter Boeck was host ess to Mrs.

Lee Burmeister al a belated birthday luncheon last week in Naperville. Also present was Mrs. Mary Riha of Downers Grove, Mrs. Boeck's sister. Valerie Lavon of Brookwood Street just returned from a month's vacation in California as the guest of her aunt and uncle, Dr.

and Mrs. E. B. Madey of Worfland Hills. With her cousins she not only enjoyed sight-seeing at Disneyland and the San Fernando Missions, bul sailing, surfing and swimming Valerie flew back from California Monday.

MRS. HELEN Kern recently returned from a trip to European and Arabian countries. In some of the countries Mrs. Kern says one felt as though you were living in another world perhaps during Christ's time The women still have their faces partially obscured by a veil, although many of the countries are becoming more westernized. Mrs.

Kern was amazed at the Bedouins' mode of travel by camel, the primitive means in which they thresh their wheat and the way that women carry bundles of wheat balanced on their heads. In Egypt the tour director took them inside a pyramid where they saw the burial place of an old Egyptian king queen Mrs. Kern rode a camel and found it not uncomfortable after learning to swing and sway with the camel. An interesting note was the camel driver, who informed Mrs. Kern he had appeared in the movie the "Ten Commandments" when it was filmed there.

In Israel, a most modern country with beautiful buildings and parks, the people are doing almost the impossible by their industrious efforts. Everywhere Mrs. Kern found the people to be most friendly and hospitable. There is no doubt that Mrs. Kern will be able to make her students in the fall enjoy geography as a living experience through her enthusiasm about ler travels through Syria, Lebanon, a Egypt, Israel, Greece and Italy.

An unforget- able sight was the breathtaking view from the 40-mile Sorrento- Amalfi Drive which has 1,061 curves as it winds up into the mountains. Friday evening Henry Bronars and his son, Stephen, cheered Bears on to victory over the All Stars in Soldier Field. Mr. and Mrs. Lou Spillone and children Linda, Frank and Skip spent a week vacationing at Egg Harbor, at the Alpine Lodge, which included activities such as a hay ride, concert, anc dances.

The Spillones were joined on vacation by Elda's and family, the Leo Seghet- iis of North Judson, anc their two daughters, Joanne anc Nancy. MR AND MRS. Tom Crema celebrated his 10th birthday with five friends and sister, Debbie, at the Museurr of Science and Industry last week. The boys had lunch in le cafeteria and then went on see the exhib its. While her sister was at camp, Susan Fronczak enjoyed the excitement of Day Camp at Salt Creek Park with Virginia and Madonna Sloan for two weeks. The Harold Ballards had as house guests last week Florine's brother and his wife, Pete and Judy Murphy from Columbus, Miss. Pete is stationed there in the Air Corps. During then- week's visit they took a trip to Ann Arbor, Mich, to visit their sister, Thelma McCoy. KIM WALLER celebrated her eighth birthday with friends, Marcia Sheppard, Joby Chesnick and Kathy Lloyd.

The girls attended a movie on Sunday evening and then stayed overnight at the Waller home. Nancy Duske, daughter of the Vernon Duskes of David Drive recently returned from a vacation in Anaheim. where she accepted a position as an In Service Director at the Martin Luther Hospital. Nancy previously worked at Michael Reese Hospital as head nurse. After Nancy's marriage in September, she and her husband, Rollin Goetsch, will make their home in Orange, Calif.
