It looked as if I might get my checkbook balanced after all. I had planned on doing it the very first thing this morning but you know how it is. I got the statement, canceled checks, check stubs, pencil and paper.

Then I thought that since I was sitting there at the desk with the checkbook, perhaps I'd better pay some bills. I wrote the checks uncovered the typewriter and addressed envelopes. The typewriter being so handy, it seemed a shame not to write to my friend DRIVE IN PRESCRIPTION SERVICE REGARDLESS OF WHERE YOUR DOCTOR LOCATED, INSTRUCT HIM TO CALL IS LIVINGSTON PHARMACY FOR YOUR PRESCRIPTIONS NO WAITING ROOMS NO LINES TO STAND IN Just Have Your Doctor Call And Your Prescription Will Be Ready For You When You Arrive At Our Drive-In Window. Alter lunch meant to get right, to it, spend a diligent 10 minutes and finish it off for good, but the mail came. As 1 opened letters it did occur to me that putting them cS would be a beautiful mea sure of self- discipline. Also, it would have spurred me on. 1 would have worked even harder to finish the checkbook if I had the mail waiting as a reward. But there might have been something really important in one of the letters, so I opened and read them first.

Of course, I had to unwrap the book the mailman delivered. I didn't intend reading any of it, but you wouldn't know the book was "The Human and who could resist leafing through it at the very least. Bernie and I have been married for nearly 10 years and have two beautiful children. A woman couldn't ask for a better husband, father, or provider, and I'm really ashamed of myself for feeling this way, but, Abby, I can't help it I seem to have developed an attraction to men who are taller than am.

When I dance with a taller man I feel so feminine and secure and then when I dance with Bernie again, feel "cheated." My husband doesn't know how I feel, and I wouldn't hurt him for the world, but this bothers me. 1 know it's wrong, and I've talked to myself until I'm blue in the face, but it doesn't help me. I can't send a stamped, self- addressed envelope, as Bernie sometimes gets the mail before I do, but if you could squeeze this into your column, with some advice, I'd certainly appreciate it. TROUBLED DEAR TROUBLED: No man has everything. Some short men are long on brains, charm and integrity, and some tali men are short at the bank.

So count I your blessings, lady and quit counting inches. DEAR ABBY: Please, please print this desperate plea to the shoe manufacturers: Help! I am almost barefoot, but I am determined not to wear those ugly, 1 mpy, cloddy shoes! They don't flatter women's feet or legs and a woman is a fool to wear something that is unbecoming to her even if it is in style.
