Hubbard Hastings Gives Talk on Forestry Frank R. Hooker, Son of Mr. and Mrs. L0TJGEE SMTTHE at June Meeting. George Hooker Buried Tuesday.

CALLING OF THE DOCKET TUESDAY INDICATES A SHORT JUNE TERM. "Time Tells a tale of two suits" The forestry committee of the St. ihnsbury Woman club had charge of the program at the June meeting held Monday afternoon at Pythian hall. The new Several Divorce Cases Settled, But Large Number are Set for Hearing. oil Garments Sp Frank Roliert Hooker, son of Mr.

and Mrs. George W. Hooker of Portland street died Sunday at his home, 75 Quincy street, Boston, after a long illness due to a cancerous trouble. His mother and sister, Miss Sadie Hooker, reached there Wednesday and were with him when the end came. His brothers.Elmer and Maurice Hooker, and sister, Miss Julia Hooker, went Monday to Boston.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Hillside People's church. The This is a Moving Picture being shown all this week at the Globe Theatre. A three reeler? No hardly a three minuter. Odd Fellows, to which society Mr. Hooker belonged, took charge of the service at the grave.

F. Stone, was in the chair. After the routine business was transacted, Mrs. Alvin W. Flint, chairman of the forestry committee, announced the pro-u am.

This opened by a spirited solo, "'King of the Forest Am by Frank H. Brooks, accompanied by Mrs. Ida P. Brooks at the piano. Miss Alice W.

Wilcox read several selections from literature descriptive of trees. The speaker of the meeting was Hubbard Hastings of St. Johnsbury, a graduate of the Biltmore School of Forestry, West Virginia, who later studied expert forestry in Germany. The forestry prolv lem is one of the most serious confronting the United States at the present time. The increasing high cost of living keeps pace with the decreasing supply of timlier.

Selective cutting conserves forestry. The lumber road question is a serious one for the farmer, for many valuable tracts of timler are inaccessible. Good forest roads not only aid the lumicrman in getting out his valuable timlier.but also enable him to cut out the inferior sjweies of trees which only choke out the letter growth. Excessive freight rates are another menace, as equal prices are charged for the transportation of high class and inferior grades of lumber. Xo farmer need to remain ignorant of market conditions, value and uses of his woodland because of the free circulation of government bulletins.

The best solution of the forestry prol-lem, Mr. Hastings believes, is in organization. With a capable forester at the head of a hearty organization, the individual farmer would be able to co-operate with the state and federal forestry department in Lawrence, after a brief illness. Mr. Wilkie was born 75 years ago in Dan ville, P.
