This brought the value of 1 956 permits to $3,184, 50 3 which would indicate a total of near $10 million, or some $2 million less than 1955. Residential (one family permits were valued at 378, 367, Church buildings counted for $245,000 the total, with 223,000 coming from the new educational and nursery building of the First Baptist church at Fourth and Main. The other church building was a $2 2,000 addition to the South side Baptist Church at 1548 East Shady Grov e. Totals by months; Janr ary February $1,140,845.

Curried Chicken -Aspargus Saladm This is a recipe for one of the best chicken salad dishes ever! it is such a wonderful way to use left over chicken or the canned variety, combined with asparagus to make a real spring salad plate. CAHILL of chicken soup. 1 cup mayonnaise 2 teaspoons curry powder 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce 2Vz cups chicken cooked 12 ounce can) 1 cup celery finely chopped cup slivered almonds (optional) Measure cooking liquid from asparagus, add water to make cups, heat half of it, add lemon gelatin, stir to dissolve. Add remaining Uquid and chill until it starts to thicken; pour about cup into a 2 quart mold, (if you don't have one, use 2 quart saucepan) arrange half the olive slices around bottom of mold; chill cut asparagus to fit depth of mold, saving ends. Dip asparagus and rest of olive slices in remaining gelatin mixture and arrange around sides of mold; pour in rest of gelatin mixture, chill until thick enough to, hold asparagus tips in place, but not firm.

Meanwhile put cold water in saucepan. Sprinkle in unflavored gelatin. Let stand 5 minute s. Now stir in soup, mayonnaise, curry powder and Worcestershire sauce; bring to boil, reduce heat and cook 5 minutes (only) stirring constantly. Remove from heat; chill until it starts to thicken; fold in asparagus ends (chopped) chicken, celery, and almonds.

Pour into mold. Chill until firm. Unmold on greens, garnish with extra olives. Makes 8 to 10 servings. Serve with buttered crisp crackers, Wonderful for that bridge luncheon.

SOUR CREAM DRESSING Sour cream cup tsp. prepared mustard. 2 tsps. cider vinegar Salt and pepper to taste cup mayonnaise Combine sour cream with mustard vinegar; salt and pepper to taste. Fold in the mayonnaise.

Add chopped chives if you like. Did you know sour cream instead of butter makes a baked potato elegant. PEAR SALAD WITH HONEY-ORANGE DRESSING 4 medium oranges 8 large canned pear halves (drained) 8 ounce package cottage cheese Salad greens and fresh mint. oranges; cut along side of each partition to remove the orange section s. Put each 2 pear halves together with about cup cottage cheese between them.

Stand pears on plate of greens; top each with a sprig of fresh mint. Arrange orange sections around pears. Serves 4. For the dressing Combine cup mayonnaise or salad dressing with 2 tablespoons honey, 2 tablespoons orange juice, 2 tsps. lemon juice, 2 tsps, grated orange rind.

Whip cup heavy cream and fold in. Serve with hot orange roils or hot crunchy muffins, to which you will add cup chopped walnuts. This with iced cotiee or ice tea will surely make a hit. SUMMER GERMAN CHOCOLATE CAKE AND LEMONADE Four layers of delicious German chocolate, put together with pecans and coconut in a cream filling ana topped wun fluffy 1 minute all add up to the most wonderful and unusual cake Daisy has offered yet! Your pithily is sure to like Vtj too, especially if are lovers' SUMMER GERMAN CHOCOLATE CAKE 2 cups sugar 1 cup Crisco 4 egg yolks 1 cup buttermilk 2 2 cups flour 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. soda 4 egg whites (beaten stiff but not dry) 1 tsp. vanilla 1 pkg.

German chocolate (4 ounces) dissolved in cup hot water and cooled. Cream sugar, Crisco and egg yolks together. Add flour, salt, and soda which has been dissolved in cup butter-, milk, and melted chocolate alternately with flour. Last add beaten egg whites vanilla. Bake in 4 layers at 350 degrees, 30 to 35 minutes.
