FROM THE COUNTY IN THE LAKE. The Macomber Drowning tase. Wyman Macomber of this place was drowned, as is supposed, on the night of the 13tli. As near as can be ascertained lie left Port Jackson about 11 Monday the. 13th, iu a small skiff, for his home in Grand Isle.

The wind was blowing hard from the southwest, but he apparently did not realize how hard it was blowing, as it was off shore, or he would not have started out, as lie was a careful man and a good sailor. No anxiety tvas felt for him until towards night, Monday, the day he was expected home. As he did not coinc, a party went over to Port Jackson to sec what they could learn, and found that he left there as stated above. Wednesday morning Willie Mooncy of this place came home from Point Au Hoche and reported that a small boat was picked up at that place the night before, and ho thought it was Mr. Macomber's.

Some persons who knew the boat started at once for Point Au Roche to see if the boat was Mr. Macomber's. They found it to be his boat. When found it was about 40 rods from shore, right side up and about two-thirds full of water. The sail attached to the mast was dragging in the water.

From appearances the boat had been tipped over, and floated on its side for a long time this is shown by the places worn in the side of the boat by the foot of the mast, as it was washed about by the action of the water, until finally it broke loose, when the boat righted. There are many theories as to how the accident happened, but the facts will never be known. Mr. Macomber came to Grand Isle about three years ago, from Minnesota, and married Mrs. Vantiue, widow of W.

S. Vant inc. It will he remembered that Mr. Vantine, together with Ethan Allen, perished on the lake some eight years Dec. 4th.

1878, in almost the same place where Mr. Macomber was lost, the lumber and oars from their boat coming ashore 1 near Sawyer's Island, where the oars, i boom, from Mr. Macomber's boat were found. It. is a strange coincidence.

Mr. I Macomber leaves several children by a former niaiTiu.sc. The youngest, a bright young lady, accompanied her father to the West last spring. She remained in the West while he returned home. He had been back but a few days when the sad acci dent happened.

It will be a terrible blovy to her when she receives the tidings. Mr. Macomber was a pleasant man and liked by all who knew him. lie was oneof the best of neighbors. He will be sadly missed by us all.

The family certainly have the svi-' pathy of all the Maud people in their double nillictiou. I Grand Isle, Sept. 20th. ISsC. Grand Isle.
