4) Another girl takes me to adjuster's desk and tells me to wait while she, finds him. 5) After 10 minutes asked for the guy's name. 6) Five minutes later go crashing behind the desk among crowd of busy clerks and fliers, and ferret the guy out 7) Turns out my account has a credit balance of $1 77 all along. 8) Turns out 1 didn't need the item that, badly anyway. CAPITAL CAPERS: Many and varied are the stories told by, and built around, madcap printer BUI Polsky.

Here's one he doesn't tell. It's built around him, and it's supposed to be true. Not long ago. when Polsky was still new to this area, he was out on a friend's boat on the Ottawa River. He dressed for the occasion in shorts, T-shirt and little sailor hat For some reason, he suddenly decided to go for a He dove over the side.

The force of the dive ripped the edge of his sailor' hat, and a large part of it hung down over one ear. A powerful swimmer, he struck off in the direction of 0tOO good-sized yacht anchored nearby. A woman sitting, on the deck of this craft with a glass in her hand, leaned over to see what the noise was in the water, and was surprised to see the soaked sailor. "Good heavens. What are you doing there?" Polsky stopped just long enough to ask: "You see a submarine go byherelady? I just opened a win-down for a minute to throw out some garbage.

Gotta catch it." And he swam on. They say she put down her glavs. BANK AND SPARKS: Mr. and Mrs. Bob Gibson, 21 Phillip Drive, recently elected co-presidents of the Golden Triangle's camping and hiking association.

Monica Robertson, has been assigned to the district office of the Ontario Society for Crippled Children, at 376 Churchill Avenue. She will be in charge of the County of Renfrew and part of the City of Ottawa.

Nurse Jean Tail, who formerly covered that area, will now handle duties in the city and the regional area. BEATING THE SYSTEM: We know a guy who met did battle, and won over the computer age. National' Film Board photographer John Ough didn't like the new "personalized" cheques that were being issued by all banks. He preferred the old cheque blanks that required more filling. For one thing, he didn't like carrying cheques that gave his name, account number and the bank branch he dealt with.

Mainly, he could see where the new cheques were great for the bookkeeper, but of no particular value to him. So when he asked for a Dew cheque book and Was presented with the personalized kind, he refused. He wanted the blanks. hjo way, the gal behind the counter said. It was the dawning of the age of etc Mr.

Ough went all the way up the ladder, until he put the question to the manager "Do I have to fill out one of these new cheques to get money out of my account?" He was told he could write a cheque on anything, "including a tractor and it would be honored, as long as it had his signature. So he was issued with a blank cheque book, and felt he won his point But we'd like to see that tractor fender cashed. BIG BURN: "As an Ottawa 'old boy born and raised in that great old city, I rise in my wrath to protest its slandering by one Paul Anka, currently whooping it up in a Vancouver nightclub." It's from James J. Larkin of 424 East Seventh, North Vancouver. And he includes a clipping from a Van couver newspaper, in which Anka is quoted as telling a columnist there: "Sure I come from Ottawa.

It's a great place to live if you're a piece of lumber." PARTING SHOT: Word is out south of the border, that there are now three kinds of news in the United States Good news, bad news, and Agnews. By Sandy CTV Is becoming like the Toronto Argonauts. The network has a. habit of blowing the big one.

Last night it presented its much-touted special, "Profit of a Pro, a half-hour video tribute to Russ and all that could be said is, like the Scullers, it had its moments. Coming hard-on-th heels of Saturday's Rough Rider Shoo-in over the Argos in the Eastern Football final, the special was anticipated as a welcome, happening for sports fans. But what arrived on the small screen seemed to have been treated with reckless abandon for only the reckless wouldn't abandon the 39 minutes. According to advance reports, the documentary study of the Ottawa quarterback was to have included interviews with some of the coaching greats of Canadian football. People like Bud Grant, former Winnipeg general and now the coach of the Minnesota Vikings, end Jim Trim-hie, a former Hamilton strategist now with the New York were expected on film to pay their respects to one of Canada's greatest.

Somewhere along the way they wound up on the cutting room floor along with other film which could have helped justify the special as just that The program dealt mainly -with Jackson's collegedayi in Hamilton, his years with Ottawa and, in addition to showing highlights of his football career, also gave viewers an insight on his life and work off the field. Ottawa supporters had the chance to savor pleasant memories as the TV biography showed excerpts from Jackson's two Grey Cup victories- gainst Edmonton in 10 and against Calgary last year. It was surprising that' the only other football tribute in the special came from Ron Lancaster, the man who once shared the quarterbacking honors In Ottawa and who now wiH lead his Saskatchewan Roughriders against Russ Jackson and company in this year's Grey Cup.
