C8 The Boston Globe MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2010 Revis ends stalemate, signs seven-year deal DARRELLE REVIS To report to Jets today Bengals cut O'Sullivan The Bengals released second-string quarterback J.T. O'Sullivan, who struggled during the preseason. O'Sullivan, who played for the Patriots in 2006, completed 35 of 60 passes for 396 yards with two interceptions and five sacks. Palmer's younger brother, Jordan, is the third-string quarterback. The Bengals also signed former UMass safety Jeromy Miles to their practice squad Quarterback Rhett Bomar was among seven signed to the Giants practice squad.

Allen goes on IR Dolphins cornerback Will Allen was placed on injured reserve, ending any hope the 1 Oth-year player had of returning from mid-August knee surgery The Texans released linebacker Danny Clark and claimed linebacker David Nixon and cornerback Jamar Wall The Buccaneers claimed center Ted Larsen off waivers from the Patriots, who drafted him in the sixth round this year The Colts signed quarterback Tom Brandstater to the practice squad Material from the Associated Press was used in this report. By Albert Breer GLOBE STAFF After 35 days, a television drama, a vow of silence, and a lengthy stalemate, it's finally NFL 0V6r- wrL The Jets and NOTEBOOK star cornerback Darrelle Revis last night struck a seven-year deal (voidable to four), bringing perhaps the NFL's premier defensive player back to a unit that was the league's best a year ago. The deal was reportedly worth $46 million, with $32 million guaranteed. Revis will report to the team's Florham Park, N. facility this morning.

The impasse in the negotiation may have been broken by a visit over the weekend by Rex Ryan to Revis in South Florida, as reported by the New York Daily News. The sides were $40 million apart in total money in August, and there was also a disparity in how that money would be structured in relation to guaranteed money, according to league sources. Additionally, Revis and agent Neil Schwartz were seeking a deal that would trump the three-year accord the Raiders and Pro Bowler Nnamdi Asomugha struck in 2009. With the signing the Jets will pair Revis with former Pro Bowler Antonio Cromartie and rookie first-round pick Kyle Wilson to form what most believe will be the premier corner-back group in the NFL. Jets cut Richardson Veteran fullback Tony Richardson was released by the Jets, who also waived wide receiver David Clowney and running back Chauncey Washington, and claimed tackle Patrick Brown (Minnesota), defensive tackle Marcus Dixon (Dallas), and wide receiver Patrick Turner (Miami) off waivers.

The move to get rid of Richardson, 38, was particularly surprising because Ryan repeatedly said the team would go with two fullbacks. Union examines trades Three of the four rookies involved in curiously timed trades have now been cut, prompting the players' union to continue looking into whether the deals were made to avoid paying money into a special player pool, a person familiar with the situation told the Associated Press. The person, speaking on Calvin in an exchange of rookie sixth-round selections. At the time the trades were made, Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said the deals were made because Morris was wasn't going to make Washington's 53-man roster. He then cut Davis after one practice.

Saturday, the Rams released Morris, and the Cardinals let go of Scott, both before the deadline to set a 53-man roster. Calvin, with the Eagles, was the only one of the four to make a team. Under collective bargaining agreement rules for an uncapped year, if a drafted rookie is cut by the team that drafted him, that team is required to pay 85 percent of that player's salary into a rookie pool. The money from that pool will be distributed to rookies early next year based on the number of downs played in the 2010 season. The way the rule is written, teams could circumvent the payment by trading a drafted player they were going to cut to another team and have that team cut the player.

Childress on defensive Vikings coach Brad Childress is staunchly defending his decision to keep Tarvaris Jackson as Brett Favre's backup over Sage Rosenfels. Childress discussed the roster moves two days after the Vikings traded Rosenfels to the Giants. Childress said Jackson has been better in practice and is the guy who would give the Vikings the best chance to win if Favre went down. Childress also said Percy Harvin will be the team's kick returner when they open at New Orleans Thursday night. Bernard Berrian and Greg Camarillo will split punt-return duties.

The coach also said the team is not interested in free agent receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh. Martin, Urbik join Bills The Bills signed tight end David Martin and claimed guard Kraig Urbik off waivers from the Steelers. Martin is an eight-year veteran who signed a day after having his contract terminated by the Dolphins. Martin joins Jonathan Stupar as the only other tight end on the active roster.

The Bills will be without starter Shawn Nelson, serving a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy. Buffalo lost three tight ends to injuries. condition of anonymity because the union has not made the probes public, said the developments over the weekend only served to reinforce the NFL Players Association's review of the trades by the Redskins, Rams, Eagles, and Cardinals. Last Monday, the Redskins sent sixth-round draft pick Dennis Morris to the Rams for a conditional, undisclosed draft pick. On the same day, St.

Louis sent fifth-round pick Hall Davis to Washington, also for a conditional, undisclosed pick. Also that day, the Eagles sent Charles Scott to the Cardinals for Jorrick Revolving door slows as Patriots' roster takes shape man Rich Ohrnberger will join the squad. Coach Bill Belichick was asked Friday about the progress of Ohrnberger and Brown. "I'd say both of them, there are things they need to keep working on and I think they are improving and have improved," he said, "but there is still a lot of football and a lot of our scheme and our system that they haven't they don't have as much experience. When they do have more, it will be better." The tight end position has been overhauled from last season.

Veteran Alge Crumpler leads the group that could create scoring chances, with rookies Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez, who combined to catch five touchdowns in the preseason. Among the players the Patriots are carrying, three are un-drafted rookie free agents in Kyle Love, Dane Fletcher, and Steve Maneri. The Patriots released linebacker Tyrone McKenzie, parting ways with the second-year player after he missed the 2009 season because of a torn anterior cruciate ligament. The Patriots selected McKenzie in the third round of the 2009 draft out of South Florida. He returned from the injury this year hoping to make an impression, but saw little playing time in key situations during preseason games.

McKenzie's release wasn't the only move of the day. The Patriots claimed Maneri, an offensive tackle, off waivers from the Texans. Maneri is a rookie who played tight end most of his career at Temple, starting 25 of his 45 games at the position in his four-year college career. He caught 38 passes for 421 yards and nine touchdowns for the Owls. The Texans signed Maneri, who is 6 feet 6 inches and 290 pounds, in May as an undrafted free agent.

The Patriots also made Saturday's trades official, acquiring safety Jarrad Page from Kansas City and linebacker Tracy White from Philadelphia for undisclosed draft considerations. Page, 6-0, 225 pounds, was drafted by Kansas City out of UCLA in 2006. He has 204 tackles and 10 interceptions in his NFL career. Page was frustrated in Kansas City and asked to be traded after last season, and did not participate in the preseason. On Friday, the Chiefs announced Page signed his restricted free agent tender.

White, 6-0, 234 pounds, is entering his eighth season. He has made a career out of his fine special teams play, notching 94 tackles. He led the Eagles with 18 special teams stops last season. The Patriots' practice squad also started to take shape yesterday. Receiver Darnell Jenkins, linebacker Shawn Crable, safety Sergio Brown, and offensive line PATRIOTS Continued from Page CI seven linemen, nine linebackers, and four safeties.

Kicker Stephen Gostkowski, punter Zoltan Mes-ko, and long snapper Jake Ingram are the only specialists at their positions. Offensively, the Patriots went with Tom Brady and Brian Hoyer as the only two quarterbacks for the second straight season. They also are carrying six receivers, five running backs, three tight ends, and 10 linemen. The offensive line includes Quinn Ojinna-ka, who is suspended for the first game.
