Lions Smoother Syracuse, 32-0 By Gene Ward Army Eleven Levels Wake Forest by 54-0 By Dick Young Army's jet-propelled back, swooshing on touchdown bursts of 50, 65 and 78 yards in the first half, powered the Cadets to a 27-0 lead over Wake Forest at intermission yesterday. The sod of West Point's Michie Stadium was pounded by a steady drizzle, but the Cadet scatbacks shot down field as though running on a slick indoor track. A rookie back named Lou Kusserow, as slippery as the Baker Field turf he was running on, busted loose three times in the opening half yesterday to hand Columbia a handsome lead over the boys from Syracuse. He galloped 51, 46 and 33 yards for scores, and the Lions added another 4TD' in the closing minutes for a 25-0 half-time lead. SI a 3 PI 71 Wake Forost-Armv mmL Ik 1 a Kit CrnVwr Frober) Liou Crashes the Line for Three Despite the fact that Lou Kusserow (arrow) is sandwiched by white-helmeted Syracuse forwards, the Lion fullback squeezed through for a three-yard gain through the line in first period at Baker Field yesterday.

Columbia won, 32-0. Navy Tops Duke, 21-0, Take 14-0 Lead in 1st Durham, N. Oat. 6 (JP). Unbeaten Navy and Duke staked national championship football aspirations today in one of the country's outstanding early-season games.

An over-night rain stopped shortly before game time. The field had been protected by a tarpaulin, but the footing look soft. About half of the 8,000 sodden spectators called it a day at this point and headed for home. Columbia won, 32-0. FIRST PERIOD Put in.

a hole by a clipping penalty on the kickoff, the Lions ran into all sorts of trouble in the first 12 minutes. At one point the Orange was knocking on the goal-line door. The visitors moved to the Lion 4, where Ferri, Syracuse workhorse, was smeared on an attempted end run. Rossides Columbia then dusted loose for 20 yards and two plays later Kusserow twisted through the line and went the route 51 yards for a touchdown. A nice downfield block by the big end, Ladyko, helped the Lion back on his way.

The time was 13:14. Venutolo, the tackle, converted by placement. Score: Columbia 7, Syracuse 0. SECOND PERIOD An interception gave the Lions the ball on their own 45 in the dying seconds of the opening period, and, on the second play of the second chukker, Kusserow was Syracuse-Columbia Pos. Ostendarp, Baltimore, plunged over for the Airborne touchdown, first score against the infantrymen in three games this season. A rm won. 54-0. FIRST PERIOD Army, taking ax punt ou its 35, punched to a first down at mid-field. Then, Fuson exploded around lef' end, grabbing a lateral from Tucker and sweeping down the side stripe for a touchdown.

Wal-terhouse missed the placement. Wake Forest took the kickolf, punted right back on second down and then, on the very first play. Davis swooped through right tackle, cut sharply for the sideline, and sped 65 yards to the score, with a beautiful exhibition of top-speed feinting. It was the same play Davis had zipped to an 87-y-rd tally on last week. Wal-terhouse's placement was good.

Score: Army 13, Wake Forest 0. SECOND PERIOD Stopped by a holding penalty, Army's secondstring backfield relinquished the ball without scoring, but when the Cadets took the return punt a minute later, they sailed 43 yards on four plays. Stuart smashed center for four, Walterhouse passed to Poole for 13 Stuart sliced tackle for nine more, and then Walterhouse shot a bullet over center to Bob Wayne, a Hempstead boy, for the TD. Walterhouse's toe made it 20-0. Toward the end of the half.

Army took a punt on its 22 and burst loose again on a spectacular touchdown dash by McWilliam. The former Mississippi State star sliced through just as Davis had done, and streaked 78 ards down the sideline, also just as Davis had. Walterhouse again found the groove. Score: Army 27, Wake Forest 0. THIRD PERIOD Army's next score came as an indirect result of a blocked punt.

Pitzer broke through to smother Jones' attempted boot, the ball slithering out of bounds on Wake's 19, where Army took over. Davis knifed for five and then Fuson slithered the final 14 yards on a nice cutback from around left end. Walterhouse converted. Just when Wake Forest began thinking it might be going some place via an aerial attack that moved the visitors to midfield, Blanchard intercepted a flat toss by Jones on the Deacon 47 and rumbled over, running right through Bullard en route when the foolish fellow elected to get in his way. Walterhouse converted this time from the 17, following a holding penalty.

Taking over on Wkes 49, Army required just four plays to go over again, McWilliams smashing the final 13 through guard. Score: Army 48, tVake Forest 9. that they didn't have much time left to something. So the boys got busy. Taking the kickoff on their 35, they flew down the field to Army's one-foot line, mostly on aerials against the Cadet third-stringers. With four cracks at making that foot, the Deacons wound up, four downs later, on the Army 25, as the soldiers creshed through to force fumbles and smear Bullard's pass attempts. On Army's first counter-play, Richmond shot 52 yards through the middle before being nailed front behind on Wake's 23.

The Cadet third-stringers smacked to the one inch line where, with four seconds to go, they called a time out. This gave them time for one more play, and gave Burkhart his chance to drive over. Final score: Army 51, Wake For est 0. Penn St. Beats Colgate, 27-7 State College, Pa, Oct.

The Blue Devils held and punted out, but the Middies roared back with Jenkins covering 15 yards in two successive plays for the score. Currence converted. Navy quickly scored again on a 52-yard drive. Hoernsche-meyer faked a pass, but ran instead, galloping 26 yards for the touchdown. Currence again converted.

Score: Navy 14, Duke 0. SECOND PERIOD It began to drizzle again as Duke reached midfield for the first time but a wild pass from center spoiled Duke's opportunity. Clark went into the game but the middies dropped him almost in his tracks as he fielded a punt in midfield. On a bad pass from center on fourth down to Navy's Minisi, Duke gained the ball on Navy's 30. Welch intercepted Clark's long pass and ran it back 20 yards to Navy's 36.

Duke was struggling along well in its own territory as the half ended. Score: Navy 14, Duke 0. THIRD PERIOD Duke got a break when Jenkins fumbled on the Navy 39 and Marshall recovered. Jenkins was injured and left the game. Again Duke was stymied by Navy's stout defense and had to punt.

Currence's try for the pont was good and Navy was ahead, 21-0. czr Bob Ferri, Syracuse back, is plenty back, for on this attempted end run he's smeared for eight-yeard loss in first period by Lions' Emil Ladyko, left end..
