A regular meeting of the Board of Trade will be held this evening. University Extension lecture at the Cbr atnut Street Hall this evening. The special train for Reading leaves the Philadelphia and Reading station at 6:30 this evening. Special meeting of the" John A. Fritchey club to morrow evening.

Business of importance. Harmony commandery, Knights of the Golden Eagle, will take part in the Columbus parade at Newport on Friday. John Myton, a horse dealer, was thrown from his carriage in Cumberland county yesterday and sustained a serious fracture ct one lesr. The Christian Endeavor Society of the Olivet Presbyterian church has started a fund to take the society to the State Convention at Reading next year. Will Hoist a Camp Curtin Council, No.

629, Jr. O. U. A. will, on Friday morning at 9 o'clock, hoist a handsome American flag on the Nisley school building, near the State Lunatic Hospital.

Appropriate exercises will be held. After the ceremonies tho Council will proceed to the Maclay Street Station and take the train for New port to participate in the demonstration at that place. An Eclipse of the Sun. On Thursday, October 20th, there will be a partial eclipse of the sun, which will be visible in this section. This eclipse will le visible over nearly the whole of North America as far as the equator.

The eclipse will begin about noon and end about o'clock in the evening, and will be a sight well worth observing if the day is favorable. RAILROADS AND RAILROADERS. Chief Clerk Harry W. Siegrist. of the C.

L. road, has resigned. It is now reported that the P. R. R.

Co. has acquired the Terre Haute and Peoria road by This line is 173 miles long. Engineer James K. Henshey, of the Tyrone division P. R.

has resigned and will shoi tly grasp the throttle of a locomotive on the Buffalo, Rochester and Pittsbuijr road. Another sitting of the master appointed to take testimony regarding the width and height of the crossing of the P. C. over the N. fc S.

R. returned to this city last evening from the hospital at Hunting don, where he had a cut in the head and a broken arm dressed. These injuries were sustained by being thrown from his engine near Tyrone. Brakeman w. JA.

The train waa speeding along at the rate of 45 miles an hour at the time or. tne ac cident. The engineers and firemen of the four en nines saved themselves by jump ins. An investigation will be ordered with a view of ascertaining by whose au thority the freight engines were pulled out from the side to the main track just when Limited was expected to come along. The regular annual inspection of the Pennsylvania railroad is now in progress.

The msDection oartv passed mrougn at toona on the way to Pittsburg, from which point the inspection began at 8 :30 o'clock this morning. The party win reach Altoona about 5 this afternoon, and remain there over night. On Wednesday the tour will be continued and the night will be spent in Harrisburg, and from here the party will proceed to Philadelphia, arriving Thursday night. Friday morning the start will be maae and jersey vny reached that night. The road is in un usuallv fine condition.

At the inspection of the president and board or directors it was said that the road was Detier man ever before. The highest temperature registered at the office of the Weather Bureau this city during yesterday was 68 lowest during last night was 52 degrees. The high barometric pressure is moving off the New England and Middle At lantic coast.

The barometer is fall. ing and stormy conditions prevail throughout the central valleys with another high barometric pressure with a cool wave moving in from the West and Northwest. The temperature in many sections of Colorado, Wyoming, Utah and Montana is hovering around 20 degrees and below this morning. The heaviest rains reported from Iowa and vicinity and the prospects are good that the sudoIv of water in this locality will be abundant inside of the next two or three days by rains. Snecial Excwrsiou to Gettysburg, Sun day, October 3 3d, via Pennsylvania Railroad.

A special train will be run to Gettys burg from Williamstown, leaving at 6 o'clock in the morning, via HarnsDurg, York and Hanover, and stopping at Lykens at 6:14 a. Elizabethville at 6:30 a. m. Millersburg at 6:50 a. m.

Re turning, will leave Gettvsburg at 5 p. m. same dav. and run through to Williams town, making same stops. The Pennsyl vania railroad will sell tickets from stations mentioned at the very low rate of $1 90 each for the round trip, good only on special train.

Ihis excursion will af ford an excellent opportunity for a visit to this most famous and historical Free Pabllc Library. The trustees of the Public Library at the meeting yesterday chose Charles L. Bailey president, J. W. Simonton vice president, William Ji.

aihcks treasurer, and L. M. Foose secretary. It was re solved to open the new library room on the 10th of November. The treasurer is prepared to receive contributions for its support.

Held for Trial. George Conroy, of Jacksonville, has been arrested and held for court in Cumberland county. He is alleged Jo be the father of the child which Sallh: Spunce abandoned in the boshes near Wonnleys burg. She is also held for trial. The child still remains with its foster parents at West Fairview.

Happy Dancers. The assemblies at the Kelker Street Auditorium are proving very successful. They are held every Saturday evening and the attendance thus tar has been very large. Owing to the progress ot the btate fair for colored people there will be no assembly until Saturday evening, the 29th. Fountain's orchestra furnishes music.

TVater for Mlffllntown. The people of Mifflintown are delighted with their new water supply, which is ob tained from Macedonia creek, five miles distant. The force is sufficient to throw a stream over the court house. Several gen tlemen interested in the water works at Mifflintown are also interested in the Stetilton project. First Practical Talk.

A talk on Physical Examinations will be given to the members ot the x. M. C. A. this evening, at 7:50 o'clock, by Dr.

J. D. Stevens. This is the first of a scries of "Practical Talks to be given bi monthly in the gymnasium by physicians of the city. Berks and Dauphin Turnpike Dam ages.

The Berks and Dauphin turnpike com pany demands $7,000 damages for the use ot its road bed between Avon and Myers town, by the Lebanon and Myerstown street railway company. Negotiations are still pending between the companies. EUrIi School Alumni. The Alumni Association of the Harris burg high school will meet at the Stevens building, on Chestnut street, Thursday evening at 7:30, for the purpose of raising a lund with wuicn to orrer prizes annu ally to three graduates. Officers for the ensuing year will be elected.

Another Robbery. Thieves broke a window on the Third street front of Hogentogler store, at Third and Boas streets, Monday gaming entrance to the store stole several revolvers and a number of articles of no considerable value. Another Hearing. Another sitting of the master was had to day in the equity suit growing out of the occupancy of the Dock Street bridge by the street railway companies. Testimony was heard as showing that the work was done by the City Passenger Street railway company.

Rsginning; to Decorate Already. Our citizens are already beginning to decorate their residences and places of business for Columbus Day (Friday), and the indications are that the observance of the day, in so far as it pertains to this city, villi be both general and of a character worthy its importance. Anniversary of a Lodee. Harmony Castle, No. 53, Knights of the Golden Eagle, will have an anniversary celebration at its hall.

Third and Cumberland streets, this evening. It will be an interesting occasion. Street Railway Ordinance. At a special meeting of Common Coun cil last night the ordinance for the Alli son's Hill extension of the East Harrisburg Street railway company passed first reading, me citizens street railway or dinance passed finally. This grants the right of way on New Fourth street from Kelker to Maclav, and on that street from Fourth to Fifth street, the present termi nus of their tracks.

Also on'Berryhill from Cameron to Tenth, and on Tenth from Berryhill to Paxton streets. me president was instructed to secure carriages for the use of the Councilmen in the Columbus Day parade. Overturned, the Wason. One of the large Peipher line freight wagons, laden with merchandise, was overturned in Strawberry Third this morning. The driver escaped injury by jumping.
