The solution, from a practical viewpoint, is to find the strength far the "long rough haul. Patton of the i National Farmers Union said Wednesday night that income to the nation's farmers might be cut much as three billion dollars in 19.55 under the Eisenhower farm program.

He pledged his organization to a continuing fight against the flexible price support feature of farm legislation just approved by Congress al tho urging of President Eisenhower and Agriculture Secretary Bon.son. The sliding scale system of supports, which supplanted ligid props at 90 per cent of parity, "can slide only one way, and that's down," Patton asserted. Patton told the constitutional convention of the Illinois Farmers Union, a new affiliate of the national organization, that the administration "deliberately contributed" to the farm surplus situation which helped win backers in Congress for the change from basic farm commodities. He said the government did this by refusing for 18 months to sell stored commodities in the world market at competitive prices and by refusing to institute a program for domestic disposal of dairy products for human use. The Illinois Farmers Union, claiming 5,100 members, was to receive Its charter today from the national group.

Patton said It was the chird new state unit to be recognized this year, following Utah and Virginia. He said a state farmers union in Indiana will be chartered next month. Patton predicted a steady growth of the national union in the ranks of farmers "dissatisfied with being sold down the river by this administration's tag-along farm organizations." A spokesman for the Illinois unit said membership came chiefly from farmers who broke with the Farm Bureau over its adherence to the Eisenhower- Benson policies. He said 33 counties have 100 memloers or more. Tho Farm Bureau lists Its statewide membership at over 200.000.

First permanent state officers were to be chosen al today's concluding convention session. POLICE COURT George Murchel wa.s fined in police court yesterday by Justice of Peace J. R. Thomas on a charge of driving while intoxicated. Blanch Flanagan wa.s fined $6.40 on an illegal parking charge.
