The families of two missing women came together in Haverhill yesterday to plead for help from the public and federal authorities.

Fred Murray of Weymouth, whose daughter, Maura, 21, disappeared on Feb. 9 in Haverhill after a minor car accident, set up the meeting before starting another weekend of searching. He was joined by Bruce and Kellie Maitland of East Franklin, Vt, whose daughter, Brianna, 17, was last seen on March 19 after she left work at the Black Lantern Inn in Montgomery, Vt Also lending their support were the parents of 20-year-old Amie Riley of New Hampshire, who was last seen alive leaving a bar in August. Her body was found last month in a marsh. Although they had never met before, the parents hugged tearfully, knowing each other's pain.

Murray said the three cases "easily could be" connected, although State Police said there is no evidence pointing in that direction. Murray said the three investigations should be centrally coordinated by an agency such as the FBI since it crosses state lines. There is substantial reason for the FBI to be involved," he said. "People should be yelling for the FBI to come in." "What if the cases are not relat- Women's Military Items $25 to $500 We buy just about any war souvenir so bring it along! Bruce Mailtland said any missing person over 12 is treated as a runaway. Murray and the Mait-lands pleaded for those who think they have information about the whereabouts of their daughters to come forward. "It can come to you; it can be your family; it can be your daughter," Kellie Maitland said.

Asked what message she want tearfully, "not one more girl; not one more beautiful girl." Charlotte and Michael Riley have been lobbying lawmakers to change the rules for reporting a missing adult. According to Charlotte Riley, it took police three months to enter her daughter's name into the National Crime Information Center system. About 15 Fish and Game officers, joined by the New England Canine and the Upper Valley Wilderness Response team, searched about five miles east of the accident site on Route 112. A limited ground and helicopter search was conducted in March, and another helicopter search was done last week, Fish and Game officer Todd Bogardus said. The search was prompted by a new witness account of a woman fitting Murray's description walking along the road that night.

Searchers would not be out again unless some evidence is found, he said. At the Radisson Hotel MNty I (342 Speen St.) (Rte. 228-Next to Bella's) (Junction Of I-96 4 Rt 1) Across Irom the From Rte. 3 No. or So.

The man, Wesley Hewey, who had 15 previous criminal convictions, pleaded guilty Friday in Washington County Superior Court. A judge in the court, Allen Hunter, sentenced him to 54 months with the Department of Corrections and suspended his license for six years. "We cannot afford your ninth OUI," Hunter told Hewey.

"My ob-ligation is to make sure that doesn't happen again. "You are not a candidate for probation. My consideration for this lengthy sentence is for the public's protection." We cannot afford your ninth OUI. My obligation is to make sure that doesn't Judge Allen Hunter Washington County Court Hewey was arrested in August 2002 on Route 9 in Washington County. By providing the name of his uncle at the time of his arrest, Hewey eluded authorities for several months after he was indicted in April 2003, and a warrant was issued for his uncle.

Hewey has been in the Machias jail since he was arrested in September. At the hearing Friday, Hewey pleaded guilty to aggravated forgery and was given 18 months in prison in addition to the 54 months. "You tried to undermine the authority of the government," Hunter told him. "And while you are accepting responsibility and entering a plea, this is a separate and distinct criminal activity." Hewey also received a sentence of 24 months, to run concurrently with the 54 months, for being a habitual offender. It was the fifth time he has been convicted of that charge.

Hewey's lawyer, Norman Tof-flon, argued for probation, saying his client could get better treatment for his problems outside of prison. Paul Cavanaugh, the assistant district attorney handling the case, said: "He continues to drink and drive. He has not been getting the message about probation." reg each V1 apnm rta vision rnone viddu oy aamsung- 4 4 TP lid 1 Jf a Plus, you still get unlimited minutes all weekend long.
