The Sliamokin Jlcrakl of Saturday says: The Miners' Examining Board returned from Lykens to Shamokin this morning and are Again at their olHce ready to dish out certifl cates. They issued six hundred and twenty four certificates to Danphin county workmen, which is extraordinarily good for seven days. They could have given out one hundred more, but did not have the necessary certificates on hand. The minors were very eager to re ceive their papers and are enthusiastic over the Gallaghor bill. Four filths of them have been born and raised in Dauphin county and are an intelligent and gentlemanly body.

They all passed excellent examinations and knew considerably of the bill as passed by the Legislature. The absence of foreigners wasauite a surprise to the hoard. The board will revisit the county in a short time. And I.eMson for Ilarrlsburc, as Well. tVllkos llarro Itecord.

Scranton's experience in the street paving matter should afford a lesson. The Councils there passed an ordinance to asphalt avenue, xhe citizens protested and finally took the matter into the courts and had the Councils permanently enjoined from executing their edict. Then, after having won thoir victory, they noted the business passing on to other streets that were asphalted, and then, of their own motion and paying all the cost out of their own pockets (and the avenue being so wide 60 feet between curbs and each owner having to pay for half tho width, the cost was quite heavy), they effected tho improvement, only one protesting, and to this day the cobbles fronting his property attract to his name a wide and unsavory celebrity.
